How can I tell if I have the limited slip differential?

Im about to do a differential fluid change, when it occured to me...how do I know if I need to buy the additive for the limited slip differential?

Should be a tag on the rear diff somewhere stating the rear end designation. If not you could go to a dealer and get them to print out a build sheet, and on there it will tell you what it has.

Look on the rear axle tubes(should be on the driver's side tube),if you see a green tag saying traclock then you got it.

hahaha no, I found the label, but went and got the build sheet anyway, good idea to find its history. Sorry for the confusion!

is there anyother way to tell i cant find a tag and i see some sticker but its like almost completely off so I cant tell????

Mine is on passangers side, cant read Trac Lock as it is wearing off. Looks like the same thing though.

Easy way to tell is to jack up the back end, put it in neutral and spin the rear tires. If they both spin the same way trac-lok. If one spins one way and the other spins the oppisite; open diff.

the main diffrence between a trac-lok and an open carrier is the clutches inside of it ... the way it works is simple ! your wheels spin tthe oil heat between the cluches , they stick together and both wheels start spining ! but in normal driving , a trak=loc operats the same way as an open carrier axle ! so if you jack it up on a lift you ll have to spin your wheel real real fast if you want to check it its limited slip or not !! so either find the tag , ask at dealler ship or wait till you change your axle fluid , remove the cover and look at it !!

does a non limited slip diff axel still have the sticker? i have a green sticker on the axel but it is illegible, heres hoping, i need to find some mud this friday and find out that way hehe
