Well, I found a 2006 Range Rover Full size, 4.4L V8) for $2000 CAD over the weekend and jumped on that. It needs a suspension sensor and the headliner is falling down but besides that its in good condition- no oil leaks! Cheaper than any good condition KJ I could find. Kiwi, why do you have to remove your bumper to get the oil filter? Sorry, I don't follow. I've been doing more searching and found that the engine skid listed in KK parts manual is cross references with the KJ skid, which is great! When you've only got 4 gears to work with there isn't much you can do to nail down good gear ratios. Balancing performance and fuel economy is the name of the game. Tow package question - got a new Libby :)
I'd imagine all the wiring for the HD cooling setup is present there. You could just buy a new clutch fan, a new electronic fan and a get a shroud from the junkyard. Can't be terribly expensive (check Rock Auto), and those are parts that will give the Jeep a reliability boost since they are new...- WheelNut

Used cars in the UK are way cheaper than in Canada/USA. You’d be looking at $8000-9000 for a CRD here. I inagine the extra complication of the diesel engine would really blow the budget. Symptoms sound like a bad fuel pump to me because those problems are all related to the engine wanting more fuel and not getting enough.
