Have a 2006, 6-speed manual 2.8 CRD (know the engine well from other vehicles and no major issues) has stater loosing power when driving ie power drops right off, not respond to throttle, then kicks back in (as if it clears something) and then might do it a 2nd/3rd with same symptoms on same drive - whether cold or hot. Bloody scarey when a 40t truck is up your jacksie.....It's a low mileage 100k vehicle.
Nothing is showing on OBD as a code.
Anyone?
BTW - when this thing looses power feels like it's in 4-wheel low when power/revs drops off - like an anchor dragging!

Clean your MAP sensor, black Bosch sensor in the rear of the inlet manifold.

Hi. Sorry for late reply - busy week.
Popped off engine cover today and cleaned the AIS & MAF on the airbox - both were fairly clean.
Had a look for the MAP - can you be more specific which one it it? Looking at motor from front bumper - I can see 2 sensors on left hand manifold - 1 is way at the back of motor - big right angled bugger with about a 30mm hex nut on it - the other 2 are closer to the middle - nearest one has a big hex onit and a yellow wire - other one further back is covered in much so cant see it proper.

This picture shows it. I pinched the picture from lost jeeps!

This is the sensors you need to clean, don't be tempted to use anything other than a blast of carburettor cleaner, it's fragile.

We have a 2005 Liberty with the Diesel engine and had that problem also. Took it into a mechanic and they noted a hose on the engine (not sure what it did) that was broken. They replaced that hose and everthing went back working fine.

Boost lines to and from the intercooler

Thank you. Gotta ask ... what's the intercooler? I've played with engines before, but never a diesel (even though I own two of them).

It looks like another radiator. It cools the intake air after the turbo has compressed it and heated it up.

We had a similar problem with our 05. It turned out that one of the hoses that connected the engine to the intercooler was broken. That was replaced and now it runs fine.
