Oil temperature gauge

Anyone ever try to install an after market oil temperature gauge, to get an actual temperature reading in degrees, in their Jeep Liberty? If so, how did it go and does anyone have a youtube for the installation?

Why are you so concerned about oil temperatures? I Use quality 5w-30 synthetic Mobil1.
I would be more concerned about coolant temperature, in which case an OBD2 ScanGaugeII can read the coolant temps.

Hi,
I would think that your oil temp would be the same as your engine temp. I did install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I used a three way union to attach the original sending unit to maintain the warning light. It works well. The gauge was installed on the panel just under the steering wheel. The tube was passed through the firewall with a protective grommet.

My KJ coolant temps average 225 F. I would assume the engine oil can be much hotter. Don't pull the dip stick hot, with bare fingers.

That seems to be really hot. I have never checked my oil or water temps. My engine runs right in the middle of the gauge surely a lot lower than 225. The dipstick can be pulled safely with bare fingers. The oil does not seems to be hot even when draining it. For sure there must be hot spots and cooler spots.

I'd always understood that oil temp was higher than coolant.

Can't see that fitting any extra clocks in a KJ would be any different from anything else, although I'd rate oil pressure more important than temp.
