Hi, I have a 2006 KJ 2.8 CRD 4WD. Need to upgrade ring and pinion from 3.73 stock ones to 4.56.
I have trouble finding for the front dana 30. do you know where to find somehow cheap ring and pinions front and rear 4.56? also need to know if other jeep like XJ ring and pinion fits my kj, cause it´s much easier to find other models parts than kj. mine is Chrysler 8.25 rear and dana 30 front. also found DANA SUPER 30 ring and pinion and don´t know the difference between the regular dana 30 and this one. PLEASE HELP!!! NEW JEEP OWNER

The front is a Dana 30A, and Libby’s are the only vehicles so equipped, which is what makes it both complicated and expensive.

Your best bet is wrecking yards. If you find a ring and pinion new you're looking at around $800 for the set, at least when I was looking a few years ago. Also 4.10 is the lowest available for the dana 30a.

Your diesel Liberty should already have 4.10 gearing. Search your vin and verify the exact vehicle configuration and options or contact your local dealer.

I have it on good account that the North American CRD (only offered '05-06) were 3.73 ratio.

What I know of the 30A r&p is the pinion shank is fatter, i.e. larger ID (and OD) bearings. I have wondered if sleeves can be pressed onto a std D30 pinion and substituted.

I thought I read that the KK borrowed the Wrangler's r&p. Anyone confirm?

Max you can go is 4.10 for the KJ. You can take a used one from the 2.4L, or Spicer D30 Super 4.10 R&P, (D30KJ-410LIB-OE). I went with the first route since I had to import the Spicer from US (customs, transport expenses, etc...)

Yes the D30 case on the KK is compatible with the non-rubicon JK D30 gears. Thus a KK can run 4.10, 4.56, or even 4.88. I only heard of one guy who ran 4.88 and he said that was going way too far because he could not fit tires large enough to match.

Will a KK case fit a KJ?
I have never heard of anyone swapping a KK front differential into a KJ. It would necessitate the KK CV axles and front running gear being swapped over with it. Possibly also the engine cradle where the diff attaches… I am not sure how much of an expensive chain reaction would ensue by trying to move a KK front diff to a KJ.

Are we talking about the whole diff? Or the internal carrier 'case' that the ring gear bolts to?

The latter item may fit all kinds of Dana 30 variants. The KJ one does anyway.

I was just wondering if it was possible to fit the KK case to a KJ, not that I'm planning on doing it, KKs are rare here anyway, nowhere near as popular as the KJ for some reason.
