Hey gang. Long time since I posted KJ stuff.

I don't get it. 325k miles and the factory starter went out...

Son-in-law actually swallowed his pride and asked me for help. This is good, as I'm making him do the work and strictly stuporvising.

However, never had to do a starter job.l on anything but air cooled VW and Porsche.

So figured I'd ask about tips and tricks ahead of time. Watched a few videos and read a bunch of threads here, but just like the good old days, I ask before I turn wrenches.
07 KJ with the gasoline six.

Added bonus, very soon a SkidRow KJ engine plate in very good, though used, condition will be available as he doesn't need it...so one yinze gonna get a deal. More on that later...

Follow the video that has you working from below and drop the intermediate shaft from the transfer case to the front punkin.

It is a pretty straight-forward process from there. The started does need a bit of turning in hand to get it aligned to drop down. I had some problems getting that heat shield while the starter was in place. Took it loose, turned it, removed the shield, a bit of tilt and roll and it was out.

Reverse process going back in.

maybe 2 hours if you have never done it before.
