    2011 jeep, wrong coolant ??

I picked up 2 - 1 gallon jugs of MOPAR Coolent and and MOPAR Thermostat from a lady on Craigslist a month ago. Ask her why she was selling it. Said she took her jeep to her mechanic and 2 weeks later it looked like she had wood chips in her radiator. Engine was toast she said. She took my...

    Lockers or not

You may already have trac loc from the factory in the rear end. Check your VIN on one of those sites that tell you your factory package when it was built. Mine has a Trac loc. Not the best, but it's a start.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Washed and waxed the jet black jeep yesterday. Looks a lot newer with a shiny paint job. Rims came out good too, put a coat of armour all on the tires too.

    Competent mechanic in Vancouver?

I live in your neck to of the woods and sorry I can't help you out directly as I do all my own wrench pulling on my new to me Jeep KJ. I have an old retired Honda mechanic that I use for my Honda vehicles when I'm too busy, never asked him if he works on Jeeps. When my Daughter used to own the...

    KJ Buying Guide

I picked up the same renegade with all the options you have for a for a lot less. Mine was a private sale and not from a dealer or auto sales place. So over the last 9 months of owning it, I've replaced the spark plugs, transfer case oil (nasty and was low), rear end oil (really bad). Check the...

Differential question - Pinion Bearings Replace or Not??

Also if you reuse the ring gear, you don't need to re shim the pinion. There should be a positive or negative number on the pinion gear face, That's probably the clearance the factory got when they used a gauge block to get the proper clearance for the tooth mesh on your gear set. Glad your...

Differential question - Pinion Bearings Replace or Not??

I'd phone around to a few local machine shops and see if they have a LH tap for you to borrow or get them to chase them threads while you wait. A rear end shop may also have one and give you a reccomendation on the one with stripped threads. Thinking they may insert a heli coil. Your right, it's...

Differential question - Pinion Bearings Replace or Not??

Great to hear almost everything went well. Now the 1 out of ten bolts that didn't shear, do you have thread gauge to check if it's metric or standard. Did it look like the previous rebuilder used loctite. Maybe he used non-removeable loctite (red) thought it was the removable (blue) loctite...

Differential question - Pinion Bearings Replace or Not??

Well, I guess your info on what you bought is a different path on what I'm heading down. I need new spider, side gears and clutch discs and steel plates for my rear end. I also like what you bought. Had a look on the web and it's hard to see what Powertrax is using in place of the clutch discs...

    Rear diff input seal

If i was replacing just the seal, I'd mark the nut exactly where you found it. Say use a pin punch on the 2 surfaces. Then replace the seal and then tighten it up exactly where you found it. Then with a 1/4" torque wrench to measure the pinion tapered bearing preload. You crank down on the...

Differential question - Pinion Bearings Replace or Not??

You said the pin holding the spider gears in place has play, what do you think is worn, the pin or cast casing. I'm thinking you may need a new case that the pin goes in. Also, where did you get all your parts from, can you share part numbers too. Mine whines like yours does and needs...

    Compression Test 0 psi

I've never done a leak down test before either, remove your oil filler cap and listen for blow by there to, that would mean your head gasket, rings might be gone or you have a hole in the piston on #5. Also, you may have to hold your throttle body butterfly in the open position to feel or hear...

    Rear diff input seal

I'm doing mine soon and thinking you need a few special tools. 1/4" torque wrench to measure the pinion tapered bearing preload, it's like 10 inch pounds. You crank down on the pinion nut a little at a time and measure the rotational torque required to turn the pinion shaft as you go. A chain...

    Transfer Case Fluid Plugs

I put a couple of these 1/2 npt pipe thread Bulls eyes on the front diff and the transfer case for the fill plug. Parked the jeep on a bit of a slope facing down and filled the transfer case up a bit more than the usual. Put the bulls eye on and now I can see the color of it without removing...

    Yet another cooling system thread

Has anyone done this big time flush before. Kind of thinking a few bottles of simple green and a few fill ups completely to remove the degreaser. Run it around the block for 30 minutes minutes. How about the prestone flushing fluid. Not sure if it is compatible with the HOAT fluid.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Yes, that's the plan TDC and then stick a piece of rope in the spark plug hole so the valve stays up to make the keepers.
