The front lift kit came from the donor jeep. I believe it is the Rocky Road Outfitters front GR2 Struts with the under-the-top strut spacer, also running the RROs upper control arms. Everything else is new Moog ball joints and bushings.
The rear lift kit is the 3" springs from RRO with the...
Alrighty, so she finally runs!
I got the rear lift kit put on without too much fanfare and put the Jeep back down on all 4s. It took a second or two after turning the key for enough fuel pressure to build up and feed the injectors, and then it fired right up. I had some minor issues to tend to...
So the first jeep that I crawled under at the junk yard had a couple of holes drilled in the tank. I immediately realized that they drill holes in all the gas tanks when they get the cars. I guess otherwise, the first idiot that smokes a cigaret near an open tank blows the whole place up...
I have an 04, and the parts jeep that is in my driveway is an 04 also.
My research from watching videos online and forums is that 02-03s have the access port and fuel filter. I have yet to find an 04 with the access port and fuel filter like in the FSM.
My plan is to head up to the junkyard...
So I have been wanting to replace my fuel filter for quite a while. I watched a bunch of videos and looked through the FSM for tips and how to steps.
Of course, my KJ does not have the access port; so that means I get to drop the tank. In the process of dropping the tank, I do not see the fuel...
Lol
I was referring specifically to the rear UCA & LCAs. The Iron Rock website states: "Upgrade lower control arms to flex joints instead of rubber bushings (on one end)". They have the same upgrade for the upper control arm.
Did you go with this upgrade?
What about the flex joint upgrades on the UCA and LCAs? I'm not totally clear on what the difference is or what the advantage would be.
Did you elect to upgrade to the flex joints, or just stay with the standard rubber mounts?
Yeah my KJ has been down since March, so I have been eager to get 'er back on the road, to say the least. Plus it is going to be a huge upgrade with the 3" lift, 31" tires, and various other upgrades we've done.
Once I break in my gears, clutch, and new brakes; my dad and I are going to head...
Gotcha thanks for clarifying.
I've already dealt with Jeep on the LCA recall. I started to notice that my KJ would get squirrely when you let off the accelerator at highway speeds. I was in college and working at that time, so I didn't have a whole lot of free time. I brought the Jeep to my...
So it sounds like the UCA is a solid upgrade, but stay away from the LCAs since adjustability is not needed? Tommudd are you just running the stock LCAs?
Ouch! Thanks for the update.
Guess I'll keep watching eBay for one to magically appear. I actually saw one pop up a couple of months ago, but it was for the 05-07 KJs and it was hit.
Project update 10/31/2021
I finally got my gears from Nitro Gear. I ordered from Rocky Road Outfitters and got Dana 4.10s for the 30a and Nitro Gear 4.10s for the Chrysler 8.25.
Re-gearing the front was an arduous process, but my dad and I got all the way to crushing the crush sleeve but could...
LOL yeah I meant to type "braided".
The parts jeep that I picked up had the budget lift from Rocky Road Outfitters. I am running the GR2 heavy duty front Sturt, extended bump stop, RRO KJ control arms, & strut top extender. This should be roughly 3 inches of lift.
In the rear I upgraded to...
I just noticed you have the "IRO rear UCA" listed in your signature. I did some research as I wasn't familiar with this and found the website with the UCA & LCA upgrade for the rear. How do you like this product?
So I a in the process of finalizing my 3" front and rear lift on the KJ, and of course my dad has to say "so why didn't you upgrade to SS bradded hoses?"
Of course I jumped on Google and the forums after working on the Jeep that day and found a lot of information about upgrading the...
I am in the process of lifting my 2004 KJ, and I am shopping around for the ARB steel front bumper and rear locker.
Does anyone have once of these they'd be willing to part with? Where is the best place to look for a deal on new ones?
Project Update: 05/22/2021
Parts Jeep came in on 5/20 and was in great shape with plenty of parts that I can salvage and move over to my Jeep. The driveline appears to be in great shape except for the front driveshaft. I will need a new one of those most likely. It has a lift kit on it that...
It is not that I am necessarily having traction issues during a rain events, but that I feel having the option to engage 4X4 increases my factor of safety will driving in slippery conditions. I don’t intend to drive the vehicle like it has unlimited traction once I convert; I have had it for...
