In the market for a KK...

It's too bad the KK did away with the part-time selection on Selec-trac, as I rather like having that on my KJ when the going gets rough at higher speeds. Thanks for the info regarding the AUTO vs LOCK. God knows most sellers don't know what they have when I ask, so I'll be sure to look for it.

    New Plugs/Coils now strange idle

Most people on here report better luck with using the regular copper plugs (any cheap name brand will do) instead of the more expensive precious metal varieties. Gap to 0.040", I believe. Chryslers apparently have the rep of disabling the coil control once it detects an ignition coil-related...

In the market for a KK...

I prefer the manual shift lever, too (wish my truck had one)m but this rig is gonna be for my mom and she's too old to figure out how to use it properly. She also needs a full-time 4WD setup for the winter, as she will end up breaking parts with a part-time Speaking of the 4WD, does anyone...

In the market for a KK...

Been looking to update from my kj to the kk model and just had a couple of quick questions: Do all kk's engage 4WD via a push button instead of the kj's lever? Also, did all kk's come with full-time 4WD, or did only just some, like on the kj?

Crank, no start (help) 02 3.7

If you have a scan tool with live data capability, check the RPM PID while cranking to see if it's showing anything. You could also check to see if the crank sensor is getting 5V power and ground. There's a signal wire on it, too, but you'd need a scope to test the voltage coming out of the...

    Rich air fuel mix problem

The downstreams usually don't have any effect on the air/fuel mix. What do the short and long terms look like now at idle?

    OBDII wiring

If you list the color of each wire, I'll check the ones on my '06. If they both match, I'll tell u where they go.

    Heater core replace

Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure I have those sockets in hand when I start. Some people claim the a/c lines don't need to be separated, just unbracketed in spots. Guess I'll find out when I tear into it. Not looking fwd to the job, but the fog (and smell) is getting worse.

    Heater core replace

Anyone know of a good write-up out there for doing a heater core replacement? Found a few vids on youtube, but was wondering if there was anything additional to help guide me.

    Another No Heat Issue

Do the hoses connected to the heater core under the hood both feel hot when the car is warmed up? Is there a way of peering inside the dash to see if the blend door is actually moving when you move the temp knob between hot and cold? On the '06, the fuse to the HVAC is #26 (10 Amp) on the left...

    P0038 code

That code means there's problem with the heater circuit on the downstream O2 (after cat) on the passenger side. Diagnosis should probably start by testing the resistance of the O2's heater element. You do this by unplugging the sensors electrical connector, then probing the correct wires with an...

    antifreeze/coolant question

That all depends on how bad things look in there. If there's rust, buildup, sludge, deposits, scale or the drained coolant looks like it was severely neglected, a chemical coolant flush additive might help. That said, I've heard most coolant flush products aren't terribly effective these days...

Transmission clunk coming out of O/D

Wish I could advise you more, but I really don't know. Perhaps you could try stopping by a few trans shops in the early am before they get busy and try to get their take on what might be going on.

    Transmission system overheating

Keep in mind changing the fluid might make things worse for the transmission.

Transmission clunk coming out of O/D

Don't know much about slushboxes, but O/D button usually allows (or prevents) the torque converter from locking up. Although it may feel like the trans is going into its final gear there, what's happening is a clutch on the converter is engaging, which locks the engine to the transmission input...

    antifreeze/coolant question

You're not going to have any problems using ethylene glycol (aka the green stuff) as long as you fully flush the system beforehand. And by a full flush, I mean you drain, refill with distilled, drive the car for a good 15mins or more, drain again, refill with distilled again and repeat the...

O2 & Catalytic Converter not clearing for inspection

I think you mean the readiness monitors for the O2s and the cat haven't completed their tests yet. When an erase is done on the DTCs (or the battery is disconnected for a while), all monitors are reset and need to go through their check to see whether they pass or fail. This can take a while, as...

    antifreeze/coolant question

just reiterating what HomerSaysDoh said. Dexcool can attack gasket materials that aren't compatible with it. GM found this out the hard way when they first used the coolant in their engines and found gaskets were failing at a very high rate. The problem was apparently exacerbated in engines...

How to diagnose a bad front diff?

What's RockAuto trying to extort? I've found they love to play games with their shipping prices, but I still sometimes order from them, esp. when they have closeout specials. I think the lower ball joints tend to be the more complained about part here out of the 3 you mentioned Re-greasable...
