I have been whipping my new second vehicle into shape, a 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7L QT2 with 155,000 miles on it. It needed some work and I have been chipping away at that, which is why I haven’t been around here quite as often the last few weeks. I still have my 08 Liberty and it’s not going...
The good side has more droop… the bad side is being held up by something. Or it’s just the perspective of the photo.
I agree with TC about having an alignment shop check it out.
^^^ This. I got really lucky last year also. When this happened the engine just quit as the valve stuck open and the cylinder lost compression. If the valve seat had fallen into the cylinder there would have been major carnage and it would have been time for a new engine. My engine never...
When my clock spring went out I had an airbag light but the horn always worked. I guess not all the wires in there break at the same time. So it is feasible that your clock spring could be going even though you still have cruise and the airbag light is off so far.
Replacing the clock spring is...
A good body shop could verify the unibody is straight and make it straight if it was a little off. My 08 was sideswiped in the rear less than a month after I bought it. The rear quarter panel, rear axle, control arms, track bar, tail light all needed replacing. I remember making sure everything...
Nice thorough write up! That tow-haul button is pretty finicky. I bet mine is filled with dust and dirt too after 17 years. Not to mention spilled coffee.
How bad of a sideswipinng was it? Did they hit your tires? How much impact?
If you were aligned multiple times and you have the printouts showing it was in spec, and you’re sure all the ball joints are good… I would be looking at other possibilities like the steering rack bushings, or rear...
I got the Commander back from the mechanic and it is inspected, safe, and ready to go. Here are some pictures from earlier today. The 08 Liberty has a new buddy.
Wow you have been thorough! I wish I could think of something that you didn’t do yet.
With your 07 you have drive by wire, like the 08+ KK. There is no throttle cable or idle air controller like on previous years. It could be something computer related maybe.
Since it is not confined to one...
Thanks! I’ve replaced one of those door latch actuators before so that’s where I’m getting my info from. From my fuzzy memory! But at least in my case, the door wasn’t stuck closed. Wish you all the best of luck.
You’ll have to get to it by taking off the inner door panel inside the car. Do this with the window up or you will not be able to access the door catch mechanism which would be behind the rolled down window. I believe there’s a screw behind the panel around the doorhandle which you can pull off...
Update: the Commander is waiting on parts, including the Mopar MAP sensor, and thus is still at the shop. Hopefully will have it back in a couple of days, all inspected and ready to stretch its legs on a weekend road trip.
Meanwhile some stuff I ordered for it has come in:
- Matching 17 inch...
This all sounds fun! As a former Vermonter and fan of NPS I approve!
Here is my thread on adding solar to my KK. You've probably seen it but if not, maybe it will spark some ideas.

Thanks for the corrected info on valve seats in the 4.7 & 5.7, as well as the clarification about cam lobe wear not being this particular era of Hemi engine. While I have owned my 3.7 Liberty for almost 14 years and know a lot about its strengths and weaknesses, the 4.7 is a new powertrain to...
