Haha...just finished fighting with mine! I feel your pain. Transfer-side bolts were a big pain in the arse. Anywho, I got the front driveshaft installed and test run was good.
While I've posted before in other conversations that I desired to do a lift & add an ARB bumper on my '04 KJ, reality closed in. I'm going to be using the Liberty a lot to haul my elderly parents back & forth to ever-increasing medical appointments. So no real lift to speak of. I'm looking at...
Changed all six ignition coils today. Purrs nicely now. 207K on the OEM coils...not bad! Installed MasterPro's I picked up at O'Reillys - $23.99 each with a lifetime warranty.
Didn't even realize it was there until I removed the rear shock on the passenger side & happened to see it. I had already pulled a copy of my KJ's factory build list so it was on there anyway.
OME springs were already on the to-be-purchased list. But I didn't really visualize how bad the isolators & disintegrated the bump-stops were until I removed the rear wheels & changed the shocks today. Can only afford so much every month, so the front springs/shocks/bump-stops and the rear...
Titled & registered the KJ in SC a couple days ago. A total of $362 ($51 for the county tax & a SC $250 "impact fee" when you register a vehicle without paying sales tax, remainder was the title & registration fee).
So a recap of today....changed out the wrong plugs for the correct NGK plugs, repaired a leak under the front cowl (again) - driver's side this time, made a back shelf (plans elsewhere on this forum) out of 3/4" plywood (scrap I had in the garage already), and repaired the rear window defroster...
OK. So I learned something else today. Before I started diving deep into this forum and absorbing knowledge, I had changed the spark plugs and put in something O'Reilly's had that they said worked for the 2004 3.7L Liberty - E3 brand. Since then, the engine ran rough at idle - almost feeling...
Well....just got in contact with the ex. She said she's never had the diff's or transfer case fluids changed. 207K miles - never a fluid change and it still drives. Maybe it was so worn out it just looked like old gear oil. No red or pink color to it - in fact it looked amber like gear oil...
As I've stated before, I originally purchased a 2004 KJ Limited that the ex-wife has been driving for the past 16 years and she just gave it back to me. As part of due diligence to keep this 207K mile vehicle on the road one of my 1st tasks is to change every fluid I can so I know what is in...
Removed the rear differential cover, cleaned & painted, new gasket & new synthetic 75W-140 with LSD additive put in also. For 207K miles the gears looked great!
