replacement engines - what to look for

If you have the equipment or access to it, I have found it's better to pull the engine and rebuild it. I have done it myself on several occasions. My local machine shop can take care of the heads, block and crank. They will even rebuild it for you to put back in. I think it's better than...

    08 Liberty TMIP?

Hello Tommudd, you seem to be the most knowledgeable guy on the website for strange problems! Got a friend with a 2008 Liberty. He is a Chrysler mechanic and was telling me that his brake lights will stay on after shutting it off and getting out. It's not the brake pedal switch as that was...

Need help, replacing manual seats with power seats

I also did this a couple times. I got under the carpet and tapped in to a "hot wire". Just be sure it's thick enough to handle the power! I had no issues after doing this.

    Engine Knocking Noise

Problem solved! Thanks to everyone for your input. Had to order a valve spring remover tool to get the spring out, but couldn't see anything wrong with it or the lifter. Took them and a couple extra springs to my local machine shop and measured the tension. It seems the bad one only measured...

No heat Still 2003 liberty 3.7L

I don't mean to question your methods, but have you checked to make sure you have the thermostat in correctly? It's easy to put this one in backwards if your not paying attention. Have you also tried bleeding the air from the hex key ***** on top of the upper hose neck? I have attached a pic...

    Engine Knocking Noise

Well I narrowed it down to a misfire or a timing guide issue so I started to take it apart. Got the driver side valve cover off and here's what I found! I'm hoping it's just a broken valve spring as I still have compression. The lifter is till good too. Any ideas on how to get the spring off...

    Engine Knocking Noise

LOL, that's the first thing I did! Noise is still there.

    Engine Knocking Noise

Hi, I got a weird one for y'all. 2005 3.7 rebuilt engine about 2 years ago. Drove fine the day before but went out to start it the other day and here is what I heard. It seems like it's skipping a cylinder, but after a few seconds it starts making a knocking noise that I can't figure out where...

    02 limited 4x4 180k engine or heads

A local machine shop can do a warp and leak check on the heads. You can also ask to check the rest of the seats, but the more you ask for, the more expensive it gets. I have done several of these repairs and the head is just fine after fixing the bad seat, usually costing about $300 per head...

Need help with driver side upper control arm

I also took the 2 nuts off for the steering rod. You can't remove it, but you can move it out of the way. Enough to get a ratchet and socket on it! You cane see the 2 nuts to the right of the strut.

Messed up changing spark plugs...pictures and video inside. Advice wanted..

The top nut holds your coil on, the stud underneath is your plastic intake manifold bolt. You should be able to remove the whole bolt. They are easy to find in a local junkyard, as there a lot of 3.7/4.7's out there. If you can't find any, email me and I can send you a couple!

    Replaced stops

I have used a 6 foot 2x4 to put them in. Leave the tire on and use it for leverage. You can focus the 2x4 on the front or the back of the bump stop (Jounce bumper) to get the angle you need to squeeze it in. At least they are cheap on ebay!

    A/c question.

Just a thought, but did you properly evacuate the system when you changed all the components? I have had this same problem before after changing compressor and receiver/dryer. I let my evac pump run for 45-60 minutes to make sure there was a good vacuum before putting freon in. I have also found...

    Engine Rebuild

I have done both, head gasket change and engine rebuilds. I would do a compression test first. If all cylinders seem the same, you can double check with a cylinder leak down test to determine a bad head gasket. If you need to replace the head gaskets I would do a top-end rebuild, including the...

Cant get air out of cooling system.....ug

Just my 2 cents, but make sure you put the thermostat in the correct way as shown above. Most people put it in the wrong way! Also, make sure you turn up the heater temp switch before starting up the car to purge.

    Rocker Arm 2006 liberty 2WD 3.7L

Did the engine overheat or get hot? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may have a collapsed lifter which is an easy fix, but the odds are you dropped a valve seat. The steel seat falls out of the aluminum head and is holding the valve from closing, keeping the spring depressed. If the...

Rebuild Options For 50-75 More Horsepower?

I have done several 3.7 valve/head jobs here in Virginia. My machine shop guy told me that he could increase the size of the head intake ports so you can get a little more power. I haven't tried this but I'm sure this won't help your fuel consumption tho! The aluminum heads have enuf heat issues...

    Mystery Spring Appeared

Do you have brake shoes or pads in the front? It looks like the brake shoe retaining spring, that holds the shoe to the backing plate. It has that little cap on top of it with the 4 way (+) slot in it! You may want to pull the tires and check the brake shoes. Good luck!

my temp selector is reversed(hot is col cold is hot). what could be wrong??

Has anyone figured this out yet? I have tried 3 different actuators and they all do the same thing. Neither of the above directions seem to be working. I have taken an HVAC unit apart at the junkyard and it seems impossible for the door to break or become reversed. It has to be something with...

    Engine Swap Overview

2002 3.7 into 2003 Liberty Hi everyone, I'm no stranger to rebuilding 3.7's, but I recently aquired a beautiful 03 liberty with 240k smoking miles on it. I had a good 02 block sitting in the garage and did a "frankenstein" and built around it, using the 03 parts. Had the heads redone at a...
