Ok last question before we make the decision to replace or rebuild.... Is there anything special I need to know about this 30a? I see ONE rebuild kit available. Wow! Google a Dana 30A and it's brings the wiki page right up, SPECIFIC to the Jeep Liberty. I would have never found that. Thanks for the info. JUST out of curiosity, there, duderz7... If that complete diff is a working unit... I wonder what it would cost to ship to 18201.- DeCaff2007

Rear end whining on power - How to diagnose cause?
Yup, went through this myself when the Wife had her first KJ. The rear diff was grinding like rocks in a tin can. Horrible. I got lucky and found a rusted to death KJ in the yard - with rear drums. Yep, probably was. Doesn't explain why the front driveshaft was missing in the first place. We'll probably never know. Agreed. I can do the test again... putting the jack stands on the lower control arms instead of the frame. I'm almost curious to see what difference it would make...- DeCaff2007

Suspension was at full droop. I'd LOVE to just replace both front wheel bearings. Can't swing the $ for that right now as they are $150 each from Rock Auto. Ok I have more answers. First, there's no "full-time" position on the shift handle. That's actually irrelevant to my current problem, but it's an answer, nonetheless. Alright. Finally some results. I did exactly what derekj said. The Jeep was up on all 4 jackstands. The Wife started it up, foot on the brake, and put it in drive. As she took her foot off the brake, she cycled through everything. 2H, 4H, N, and 4L. NO grinding anywhere whatsoever. NONE...- DeCaff2007
