TY, Excellent description of the procedure. Now, in 2023, this Senior on a fixed income will have the confidence to do mine on my 2005. I guess eyeball the adjusting after the install? Spinn the wheel so it does not drag?
I bought my tow hooks from the dealer back in 2005. I recall they came with the hardened bolts and nuts that spread out as you turn the bolts into the frame. Not sure the rating of the bolts so ask JEEP at their phone number and if they don't make them at least you will know which bolts to buy...
My rails came as advertised by RRO, but I had to add rubber strips below each foot of the rails to avoid metal to metal contact. One of the rear bolt holes on one rail was a little off center which I called to tell them to check their measurements. Also, I have a little rust where the welds are...
Yes, owned my 2005 since new and have learned how to place my feet to avoid the crowded peddles. I have a clutch too. I am extra careful if I am wearing boots.
My 2005 Driver Side Seat Belt is worn out. Would there be any issue swapping it with my Passenger Side Seat Belt? Has anyone done this? If so needed, where would I buy a new belt?
I had installed a hitch many years ago and took it to my dealership when notified of the recall. They said I was good as was and I asked for money that I had spent on mine. Dealership refused but I called my local TV News Station Consumer Reporter and she had Chrysler headquarters send me a check.
I own an 2005 and had a clutch replacement three years ago. I left my KJ overnight and the shop said they had a local machine shop carefully refinish the Flywheel. I asked the machine ship guy and he knew it was curved. He claims he very carefully turned the Flywheel taking minimal surface off...
I have some grease fitted OMIX brand LBJs I will be installing from 4 Wheel Drive Parts. Hope they do well. I had the current LBJs replaced under the recall years ago but they were the same non grease OE that were originally there. No improvement.
I wish I was as lucky. My 2005 bought new, at 80K miles has had a few more parts replaced but my engine still seems sound. Jeep should have used better engineering for the suspension quality and design.
Replace the resistor card with one from a Dodge Sebring 1996 year I recall. It is green ceramic and plugs in like the OE. I did this to my 2005 years ago and have not had problems since. It is either 1993 or 1996 year. Compare how it looks at a parts store with your OE part.
One of the rear stock bolts was a bit out of alignment but yes, you use the stock bolts again. The rails look strong and nice but tiny rust spots on a couple of the feet area. I just started applying FastWax spray wax on them to see if it helps weatherize them since I now park the KJ outside...
I have a 2005. I installed Rocky Road Outfitters steel roof rack which bolted on the roof with existing bolts. I did this last year so still making them.
My gas tank recall experience
Good KJ owners,
I saw in 2005 when I bought my Liberty that the gas tank was not well protected from damage and installed a Draw-Tite hitch myself. When the recall was announced it took about six months to actually get an appointment at the Jeep dealer shop...
