The cost for the brakes covered replacement pads all around and two new front rotors. Routine wear & tear.
The upper ball joint failed because it's a lifted Liberty with stock upper control arms. I need to get proper Jeepin by Al UCA's or else I'll be replacing another one within a year.

Okay an update for everybody.
The starter problem has begun to get worse quickly. It's not likely going to last the week and I have plans for an anual trail run this upcoming weekend.
I've shopped around for a new starter and the cost of rebuilding the old one.
#1. I don't have the time...
If you asked me how reliable my 04 Liberty was in June I would have said it was very reliable.
However in June I spent $300 on the brakes & another $250 on replacing an upper ball joint and I discovered the oil pan is rotting out and needs replacement. And this week I'm replacing the...
I read the original post and all of the replies but I don't think I saw a single one that asked the question about how you're calculating your gas mileage. So, how are you? and how do you know if your speedometer/odometer is reading correctly? That can throw off your gas mileage.
For the...
Doh!
Sorry, I should have mentioned that my Libby is 3.7 L V6 gas powered.
I haven't actually poked my head under the hood yet (it's been raining for the past three days) but from studying the service manual I seem to understand where the starter is and why the manifold must be partially...
LOL, "Man tires"
Seriously we've all done it but you should never go off road alone even after you get some "Man tires" & a lift. The dumbest things can happen from serious injuries to simple things like locking yourself out of your ride.
By the way, nice pics.
I've begun to notice that lately my Libby doesn't easily start. The starter may be failing. Reading through the service manuals it appears that I have to partially dismantle the exhaust manifold, is this true?
A quick update.
I've replaced the bad ball joint/UCA and have noticed that the rattle that I used to hear from the passenger's side front is gone. I was thinking that the noise was from a bad shock but it must have been the ball joint.
Also after doing the brake job earlier this week I've...
Wow I wish I had read this posting this morning before tackling the job of replacing a single UCA on my Libby. This afternoon I replaced a single UCA on the passenger's side because of a bad ball joint.
I'll just add my two cents, before starting the job make sure you have all the tools...
The other day while under my Jeep this piece of the oil pan flaked off.
Geesh, and I'm really surprised the oil isn't pouring out.
Today I went to the dealership to pickup a replacement Mopar oil pan. While waiting for the fellow to find the oil pan gasket I inspected the "new" oil pan...
Okay, I have an update and a confession :icon_frown:
Today I bought a single UCA from a local parts supplier because the price was only $140 and it was in stock. I can have my Libby legally back on the road by the end of this weekend.
Later this year before the snow flies I do plan to buy...
Two years ago the dealership replaced the upper control arms on my 04 lifted Liberty because of failed upper ball joints. This month the MVI failed because of bad brakes & a bad upper ball joint on the passenger's side. I've taken care of the brakes but the dealership states that the 1 year...
I'm about to place an order for a pair of upper control arms from Al's. I'll let you know how long it takes to arrive on my doorstep here in Canada. Hopefully within two weeks.
I haven't read all the replies (I'm too lazy) but if you upgrade the alternator don't you have to program the ECU to let it know it's there? After all the ECU controls the alternator.
I bought a Liberty Sport which came bare with no to points of skidplates.
It's been my experience that you can't always get the skidplates for your year of Liberty but that often by drilling an extra hole you can make them fit. And also I found that the dealerships often sold the skidplates for...
I had a similar problem with my Libby.
Don't go to a wrecking yard. I bought one from a wrecking yard for about $100 and wound up using two motors to make a single one.
I too recomend getting a new OEM fan.
