More heater core pics
1st picture shows the 9 of the 12 tubes blocked. Poured water in the top U tubes and it's dry on all the 9 of the 12 bottom outlet tubes. 100% blockage.
2nd picture is an overview.
3rd picture is me starting to rod the 9 plugged tubes. Felt like pushing a steel rod in...
I thought I'd open up the KJ original heater core to see why I had a dogs breath for heat in the cab.
Well here are the pictures of an opened up heater core.
12 passages from inlet on the top tubes to outlet on the bottom tubes. Each vertical set of tubes are a U tube.
2 tubes we clear on the...
Just finshed installing a new heater core, went for a cruise and it feels I went to hell and back that the KJ is so warm. Picked the Jeep up in 2020 and I always knew that I needed a new heater core.
Once I removed it today, I went and pulled the top plastic manifold off of the old heater core...

Well I took a stab at changing out the heater core today.
Started after work and got as far as the dash is loose and hoping to install the hear core tomorrow morning.
Watched a few you tubes before starting and flew at it.
Will report back when I’m done.
When I acquired my 2003, it came with that high pitch whine and growl when accelerating. Take off the gas and it was quiet.
So I opened the diff cover and sludge poured out with metal shavings.
Also the spider gears were pitted and chunks missing from them.
Fresh oil and sealed it up, still have...
I just recently bought my Liberty too and noticed a humming noise on the highway from the rear end.
Opened mine up and found the spider gears were a bit chewed up (spalling) like these pictures.
Need to change them out when I get around to it also.
Check for this when you open yours up.
Mine is...
Has anyone done valve seals, part numbers?
Gotta get a compression test done also to see if the rings and cylinder bores are toast.
My engine is consuming oil almost faster than filling up.
146,000 miles on the engine.
I can almost say check the gas and fill the oil.
I used molylube that you use in CV joints.
Once the oilylube washes away, the dry moly will be still there hopefully.
I'll check it next year as I just did it this spring.
Will try marine grease next time if the molylube is all washed away
Check your spider gears and side gears in the rear end, mine are shot and I'm on borrowed time driving with them chewed up.
Mine howls at high speed under acceleration. Coast and the noise dissappears.
You"ll know how many items to replace when you see the condition of your gear lube. My first...
When I first got my KJ, there was a loud hum cruising at 50 MPH.
It's Still there
Had this before on my high mileage Ford F-250.
Is the Rear end toast in my KJ?
Took the rear end cover off and sludge came out along with metal bits and pieces.
Magnet was packed with metallic sludge.
The side...
I remember seeing a video where a guy removed the coolent lines right at the heater core to burp the system. Never tried it myself, and it's only a suggestion.
Do it cold and while the engine is running
I know prestone antifreeze used to make a small plastic tee joint that you could put inline...
Could be your fan motor needs replacing. Or the wiring has a bad connection or the plug to the fan is corroded. Starts, but trips out after a few minutes.
See if you turn the fan by hand and see that if it rotates freely.
Could be worn out brushes or a failed bearing.
If it was me, I'd remove...
Right on, I'm happy just with the trac loc. I guess a better way to look at it, it's better than not having one.
It's posi traction as Chevy used to call it.
