Argh!!!!!

Had the oil changed on my Liberty 3,500 kms ago. Done at a reputable garage. Only 28,000 kms on the vehicle. The vehicle is my daily driver, city and highway.

Today, the Change Oil light went on every time I started the car. Oddly, just last week I had the car at the garage, prior to light coming on, and I asked the folks to check the oil. I was told that the oil was clean and didn't need changing (honest mechanic!). A week later, here I am with the light on.

Can this light indicate something beyond "dirty" oil? Do I really need to change oil every 3,000 kms even if the oil is "clean"?

Thanks.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
The "change oil" light uses inputs like drive time, idle time, outside temps,engine/trans temps, brake inputs, and much more to set your OCI's which can very greatly from one to the next.Lots of idle time and stop and go traffic in colder temps will breakdown oil much faster then constant highway driving in warmer temps.

If the light was reset when the last oil change was done then by driving conditions your due for a oil change.

Yup. Mine typically comes on every 5-6,000 miles.

Mine comes on anywhere from 3000 - 6000 miles, depending on the type of driving I have been doing (hiway, stop-n-go, etc). Just get it changed.

I don't pay attention to that crap.

I just change it every 5000 miles with full synthetic and a good filter
