Just got back, I averaged 23.5 mpg, going 75 on the highways, climbed 2 mountains, one up to 7120 feet, the other 4200 feet, a fair amount of trail at the Donner pass and in the desert. The Liberty if filthy, had a great time, even stopped by a "machine gun shoot" in Reno and shot stuff like a M60, M2 Heavy machine gun, M134 Minigun, drove a APC... the Glock 18, ***'s you name it. It was a wild trip.

23.5 mpg at 75 mph?! Wow, I can get that at 65 mph, but going up to 75 drops my mpg by 2!

Sounded like fun, including the shootin'! (Cheers)

Yea really, 60-65 seems to be the prime for the libby.

Ive gotten 24 at 45mph by turning off O/D also. \:D/

Interesting that you said that about the O/D at 45 mph. I suspect that it actually lugs the motor at that speed and uses more gas. ???

I know the theory on O/D.... it's just a low speeds, it like the motor is lugging, and therefore requires more gas to get it going. It would be like towing a trailer up a hill with O/D on.

I think your confused about something here.. If you were doing 45mph and hadent turned O/D(4th gear) off, then you would be hitting around 1200-1300rpms(wild guess). If you turn O/D off, it keeps the ****** in 3rd gear and locks the torque. This means the rpms would be around 1600-1800rpms(again, a guess) thus reducing the strain on the engine and ******.

Does this make any sense? O:)

Ok you have me confused.................If you lock out o/d you would be turning higher rpm and then using more gas to maintain the higher rpm??

Well the mileage was probably the result of the 5 fwy, going through central California, it's straight, flat and that way for a very long time. Very boring drive, I started having fun once I got to the mountains and left the general roadways, for old train service roadways, climbed out to 7120 feet and back down into Reno, then that night some trails in the pitch dark of night, some more the next day before going to the shooting event, which, trust me, was just as much fun as the trail.
On the way home I went from Stockton to Lake Forest, California on 1 tank of gas. I will never give up my Liberty, they'll have to pry it from my cold dead hand!!!
