2011 - Should differential be 'hot'?

Hi guys / gals:

Have the 2011 Sport and wondered if the differential [cover] should be too hot to touch, this is after a 45 mile drive home.

I was underneath looking at something and for the heck of it touched the Diff cover - It was too hot to touch... I'm guessing it is (?) normal, kind of like engine oil when it gets very hot after the engine gets up to normal temp.

Any of you tried Lucas or other such lubricants in the diff? Thanks.

i would say no.. i drove mine across town the other day and popped the cover and had my hadns in the oil and it was luke warm...

i wonder what the others will say.

During break in(as in new vehicle) it will get hot.Good idea to heat cycle the gears(google it).

The operating temps for your diffs,t-case,trans,and engine are far to hot to actually touch when at the correct operating temps.

When I do differential fluid changes, I typically wait until the vehicle is cool. Or I do it before driving it because, like oil, it gets hot.
