borrowed a buddies 255/70/16 for about the past week or 2 , didnt notice any real loss in power or mpg. These were on stock 16's and decently worn down...mine will be on soft 8's and new...gonna pull the trigger anyway.
Your experiences with this size with or without steel wheels is welcom. just my 2 cents ( so far )

A lot also depends on what tires you get and also most aftermarket steels are heavy. Adding heavier wheels then with 6 or 8 ply mudders and you're going to notice a difference. With 265 70 16s on the Moabs on the 03 I notice some difference around town but not bad. On the higway with loaded trailer is when its going to be nice to have the 4.10s

I'd say go for it, just do some research on best set up for the tires so you'll never experience any hassle or rub.
