Hello guys, newbie here trying to decide what to do :)

Got a 04 KJ lifted with a OME 2.5" liftkit. Got 2.7" of lift compared to pre-lift, so the old springs were a bit worn I guess.

I've got some extra rims with it (stock rims) and I would like some offroad tires. Im wondering if 245/75/16 BFG mud tires will fit my Jeep without rubbing. BFG says these tires are 30.7", if I take the same sized AT tires it will be 30.4"

So I'm hoping you guys can tell me a bit more, would hate to spend euros on tires that wont fit properly.

Pound over the pinch welds , you should be OK, main rubbing would be the pinch weld as mentioned, and possibly some in the front of each tire ( front tires) that you could heat the plastic and push in for extra clearance . I'd personally go with something other than BFG but thats your choice
Also would suggest getting ready to regear to bring back some fuel mileage and power

Thanks for your answer tommudd, i'll do a bit of research about regearing.

What brand of tires would you recommend?
Maybe a 255/70 would be better than a 245/75 with less rubbing?

Trying to understand all this :D

265-70-16 and a 245-75-16 is almost the same height, just the 70 series is wider. The 255-70-16 of course is a bit smaller in height. Its what I am thinking of going to with my next project ( lifting it 2.5-2.75 inches )

I'm running that size on stock wheels, but added wheel spacers to help the clearance. Pinchweld and some plastic shaping/trimming still applies.

You may not need to regear anything. Try the bigger tires first. Economy and power is still fine here (V6 and 6spd manual) and the speedometer is closer to correct now.

Thnx for the info guys.
Found some info I would be ok without regearing.

Tommudd, you said something about BFG, which tires do you recommend? (AT or MT)

Difference in manual and automatics PLUS you would notice a world of difference in power and mileage if you did regear

I have Nitto Terra Grapplers that I think are 30.6 (245/70/17). Didn't do a thing to the pinchweld, doesn't need it but I did trim the air dam and wheel well liners at the front a bit.

i didnt hack anything out.. they fit with all that S$%t there, (thre is 1.5" spacers on the front as well). the front bumper fell off, previous owner treater car like shit and must have hit evertying that came close to the bumper, so i just removed it and trimmed the fender linear as i wasnt paying for a new bumper cover (that and im making a winchplate, new bumper)

I just recently lifted mine (2.5 inch) put 2 inch wheel spacers on and threw 265/75R16 on it. I beat the crap out of the pinch welds and ground down any points that were sharp and sticking out. Still the outside of my tires hit at about 3/4 of the way through turning the wheel all the way L/R. It's starting to tear up the edge of them too. Also I had to take off the fender flares because I was turning and hit a decent size bump and the tire ripped off the front left one, so I guess proceed with caution.

Ya it's a project right now. Kinda read some information wrong originally so got bigger tires than I should have. I had money set aside for the whole project but had to put that money on other emergency expense so the whole thing got put on pause. I do want to switch to a 4" lift though.

Maybe i'll stick with 235/70/16 mud tires (29.3")..i still havent decided yet :)

If you can find the tire you want in 255 70 16 I'd do that. Options are limited.

Otherwise 245 75 16 will give you the least issues given your lift. Its worth your time to do a bit of work with the heat gun on the wheel liners once you've checked fitment, It will not rub badly if at all depending on your aligment specs.

235/85r16s anyone? Lol. Yeah i know it needs regear.

Considered it, but went with the 245/75R16 (even at $20 more per tire) because its a better fit on a 7" wheel, and less clearance issues for the 2" lift I put on.
