Hey, my wifes 05 liberty is having issues going from 4L to 2WD.
When I go into 4L I have the truck in neutral and same when I go back to 2WD. today after a little bit of light play it started to bind up when I would try to get out of 4L.
I'm not to familiar with the Jeeps set up and would like some input before I dig into it.
Sorry if this is a repost. I looked around before posting and didn't see anything....

Put in it reverse after you get it back in 2wd and back up 15 to 20 feet. This should disengage the transfer case.

Thank you.
I'll check it out tomorrow. I want to fix whatever is wrong with it before it gets worse. I'm taking it into my shop on Tuesday to get the alignment fixed.

We were just talking about how alot of us rarely use 4l. Mine has command trac? which offers part time and full time making 4L a oh sh** i am really stuck thing. What were you doing to have it in 4l if you dont mind me askin. On a side note you should fill out your sig with simple info about your kj year mods 4x4 system you know makes it easier on the community to help.

You must have Selec Trac if you can operate in full time 4X4.....Command Trac such as I have only has part time 4X4 in either Hi or low range....for limited use on very slippery surfaces..... and 2 wheel drive.

My Owner's manual states that the Jeep should be slightly in motion when engaging in 4X4 or back to 2 wheel drive!

I always forget which is which hence the "?". I read that too but i always do like you said put in neutral and change. If putting it in reverse doesnt do it you should check out the tc linkage or sensor.

One thing I've learned about these transfer cases - whether Full Time SelecTrac or Part Time CommandTrac - is they like to be used. In other words, put them in all 4X4 positions every once in a while (on the appropriately slippery surface) to keep all the linkages and clutches lubed up and operating. Seems when they are just running in 2WD all the time is when they tend to get 'stuck' when trying to get them from 2WD to 4WD and back.

And since the ATF+4 fluid is so cheap and the drain and fill plugs are easily accessible I like to change out the fluid about every 12-15,000 miles. Takes about 2 quarts and 30 minutes so a pretty cheap bit of insurance :favorites13:

My 2 cents...

Bob

I was playing around in some mud holes and I'm so use to having my bronco II in 4L while wheeling I didn't really think about the KJ bing much different. I have noticed on the cluster when in 4H it'll say "part time 4x4" or something along those lines.

Thanks for the sig Tip I'll get on that.

That probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd like to keep this jeep for as long as possible without having to replace major components.
