I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty with these symptoms:

#1
When the vehicle is started, the airbag light in the cluster comes on and it stays on all the time, regardless of whether anyone is in the passenger seat or not.

#2
The "Passenger Airbag Off" light stays on all the time down under the radio, regardless of whether or not anyone is in the passenger seat.

#3
The seatbelt light on the cluster does NOT come on if there is a passenger in the passenger seat that is not buckled. The seatbelt light works correctly when the driver is not buckled.

I believe that these 3 things are related to a single faut, perhaps in the passenger seat weight sensor, or perhaps in the passenger seatbelt sensor.

If anyone, based on these symptoms, has any diagnostic suggestions then I would be glad to hear them. I do have electronics background, so testing for open/close/ohms is something that I can do if necessary.

I have tried unplugging the battery for awhile, but that did not help.

Faulty passenger detector sensor, connection or wiring...

worst case scenario, bad BCM. But if a BCM goes, you'll usually notice more than one issue.

That is normal operation. That light in the IC is only for the drivers seat belt.

Conflicting information... what is the accurate answer to the question of whether or not the cluster light for seatbelt is for the driver or drive+passenger?

This indicates that the light is for BOTH seats:

Kinda pointless to have both connected to one light. That light in the IC is only for the drivers side seat belt.Like the weight sensor in the passenger side that light in the IC panel disables the drivers side airbag.

Sorry to contradict, but in my '08 KK when my wife is in the passenger's seat and she is not buckled in, the red seatbelt light on the dash illuminates and the Jeep's warning chime sounds three times if I put it in drive and move while she is unbuckled. Perhaps this has changed from the '07 KJ to the '08 KK.

Same for my '11. The only thing I'm not sure of/don't trust is my airbag off thing by the hazard button. When I first turn the Jeep on it lights up(I think haven't looked in a while), and any time after that it doesn't light up even if someone is or isn't in the seat.

Random side note, I can't believe that was my 1st post lmao I really don't come on this board much

Um, Troy....

I hate to say this but you are most certainly not correct here. The seatbelt light does in fact stay illuminated if BOTH front passengers are NOT buckled in.
