Amsoil or Mobil 1?

Leaning toward Amsoil as i like the 25,000 intervals and it seems legit. Although Mobil 1 can be bough easy at WalMart where as Amsoil must be ordered, but Ild rather order if i have to if Amsoil is better.

Thoughts? Which is the better oil and why?

You know that you need to test the oil about every 5000miles to make sure it's still good.right? And also install the bypass filter to if trying to go 25,000miles with Amsoil.

Just take that $30 you'd spend every 5000 miles or so and buy the Mobil1 and a filter and just change your oil instead of testing it.Amsoil is very good but I would never run anything past 3000miles no matter what oil was in my crankcase.

i didnt know about the bypass or the testing every 5000 miles. 25,000 did scare me a bit to be honest. ill just go with mobil 1 like you say, but can i use just a regular oil filter as i always have, or does synthetic take a different type?

You can use the same filter no problem.

Amsoil makes a pretty neat (edit) 'relocation filter'. It hooks up where your oil filter would normally go then relocates to another spot. Here is a pic:

The owner's manual says 6 months and no more than 6,000 miles. If you were to have a warranty claim on your engine, you would have to provide proof of timely oil changes. That is my fear since I went 7700 miles in a few months. I'll stick to 6,000 with Mobil 1. That will be 3-4 oil changes a year for me.

IMHO a regular filter is OK, PureOne, K&N or Mobil 1 oil filters might be better but there are plenty of opinions on that subject. It is really about the dirt and combustion by-products, whether or not they get trapped and how well the oil disperses or suspends it. I have already had a regular Purolator and a couple of PureOnes. Currently PureOne. Between $5-6 if I remember right.

This is a bypass filter set-up,uses 2 filters,one normal filter + the bypass filter.

here you might want to read this near the end concerning Amsoil. Read the whole article first but its near the end. Has to do with catalytic converters and Amsoil.

Im definitely going with Mobil 1 just because after reading this article i now realize that no matter what if an oil can run 20,000 plus between changes, it still collects all kinds of deposits and still gets dirty even though the lubrication might still be good.

BTW nice relocation there, i bet it makes taking the filter off allot easier. something ive gotta do.

ahh, the hard part is relocating it. All you do is hook that up to the hoses and youve got two filters.

I've been running Amsoil in one of my Mini's for the last 25 years. I also have a filter re-location/by-pass filter set-up. I usually change my oil every 7500 miles and my filters every 1500. (Keeping in mind that the engine oil and transmission fluid are shared in the classic Mini.) The oil is not only clean looking but after oil analysis, it is still clean enough that I could get away with changing it around the 9500- 12000 mile service duty cycle!
