I'm looking through my owners manual on my '03 Liberty and I see where the timing belt needs to be replaced on the 4 cyl. but no mention of replacement interval on the 6 cyl????? Does this engine have a timing chain or what's the deal? I thought every vehicle had to have the timing belt replaced near 90K miles (give or take). Thanks!!! :-k

That is correct. The 3.7L is powered by a timing chain that shouldn't... theoretically need to be replaced. One of the advantages to a timing belt is quieter operation. Chains are much more durable however.

The 2.4L is in fact, belt driven.

If you don't the answer, no question is stupid! The only stupid question is one that goes unasked when you need to know the answer!
