Auto-shift knobs...why so few choices?

Has anyone else wondered why there are such few choices for custom (aftermarket) auto-shift knobs with overdrive buttons? All I can find is this...obx thingy that looks-- shall we say...gaudy-- whereas anything else I can find that looks decent has no overdrive button. Any thoughts on this?

Almost makes a man wish he had a standard just for the wide choice of shift knobs.

The neatest shifter knob I have seen had a series of buttons incorporated into the top of the unit which you could address and use for a whole myriad of aftermarket functions. It looked as though it was desinged for an automatic transmision.

Do tell, any pics? Mfg info? eek2dance.gif

I'll start digging around for you. Might take a couple of day, but I'll look non the less!
You might want to check out this web site. It is a little difficult to navigate from time to time, but I did see the item there. Later this week I plan on going to one of their retail outlets and I'll see if I can get a web site address off the products packaging.

Shifter

I believe there is a European company called StarTech that made one, along with several other Liberty items. Couldn't find a web page.

I didn't see any links in your post, so by 'this' website, do you mean the jeepkj site? I'll take a look around. FYI, this is the only one I've found that repeatedly keeps popping up:

It might work in more of a sports car, but I find it to be gaudy. A little too much "Buck Rogers" about it.

There are some great shift knobs out there, most (unfortunately) are for standard, and the rest don't have any option for an overdrive button. I suppose it may be time to get out the old thinking cap and make one scratch? It's times like this that make me wish I were a machinist.

I know exactly which knob Socks is referring to, but can't seem to find that one listed for sale anywhere. I did, however, find these knobs. The only problem is that they are for a manual transmission. I'm sure you could modify the stock shifter to make it work with a manual knob, it would just be a little dangerous due to you no longer needing to press the shift button to shift the transmission, but anyway here you go:

Red
Blue Base w/ Silver Top
Blue
Yellow

4 buttons for all your switching needs\\:D/ (including OD)

That's the thing, gramifications... lots of stylish manual shifters, but no proper auto-shifters with an overdrive button. And it's a funny thing, because I've personally owned all of like two automatic transmission vehicles in my life, and both had overdrive buttons. You'd think someone would produce a little more variety. I've never switched an auto shift knob, who knows, maybe it's such a difficult and cranky task, no one's in the market to do it.

Not the same as the one I was talking about.
But.
The one I had in my hands was actually pretty decent looking. All aluminum construction with a polished lower half, a satin "brushed" top with a smoked or coloured plastic "Push to open" switch cover.
And it was for an automatic transmission, complete with a button for the electronic overdrive.

The instructions actually indicated that relays were needed to operate the switches as they were low current draw.

Like I said, I'll be going to that store later this week or up coming weekend.
They have two locations here in the Greater Vancouver area, one store carries them and the other branch does not. Go figure!

Cheers
Ry'
At which time I'll try and get the name, address, website, etc.
And, as I mentioned, it had four (4) accessory buttons which you could assign for what had you!
