Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in or not. I was pulling our 1 day old (2002) Jeep out of the garage today and I noticed a squeeling coming from the wheels. Now normally this isn't a huge deal to me. Brakes squeek we all know that.

Lots of pedal the car stops on a dime but why the squeek? Is there anyway to spray some type of chemical on the brakes to eliminate brake dust maybe? Or is itthe Ebrake thats dragging?

My '02 brakes squeak to when cold but goes away when the brakes are warm, there is a TSB on brake moan but don't know what year of vehicles are effected. You can get some disc brake quiet and spray on the back of the pads to help with it,any auto parts store will have it.

Will try the spray stuff. ITs just weird that it started today because its really warm out.

Do I need to take the wheel off to get the spray to work?

I don't think I need to replace pads just yet since its not on a sensor or anything

Do these have pads on the way around or is it drums in the back?

drums on early models, later models have disks all around. how many miles on your kj? have had to replace front pads 3 times on two seperate kj's now and everytime it's been at the 35k-36k mark.

just put pads on the renegade today, got it before they tore up the rotor too.

I think the Jeep has 56,000 on it. Brakes aren't a huge deal to do as I assume pads on it are the same as any other car? Would a 2002 have pads on the rear?

Yeh you gotta remove the wheels, you have to also remove the pads and spray the disc quiet on the back of the pads.Being a '02 you most likely have drums in the rear,I think if you got ABS you may have rear disks.Easy check though, look inbetween the holes in the rear rims and look for a disc or drum>

So are you guys thinking these pads might be glazed?

The most common cause of disc brake squeak is that the pads are vibrating which causes a "squeak".Using disc brake quiet puts a "sticky" surface on the back of the pads to reduce the vibrations.

Interesting - Would this be due to the way of previous install? It just ***** that Im doing brakes already. But I don't know if the people before us did them at all EVER.

Well if they where changed they could of not use brake quiet and/or not cleaned up the rust around the area(cleaning the rust up where the rear of the pads contact will also go along way to reduce squeaks),but the factory pads have been known to last a long time, maybe they are getting shot. It's not expensive to just replace them and be good to go for awhile and you know that/when they where done.

Well They didn't show up on the Car Fax Im not sure if they would or not.

If the pads were running thin doesn't Jeep have a sensor to indicate the pads are low?

So does ANYTHING need done to the rear if I change the pads on the front?

Hey guys. On the Brakes - is it better to go with Semi-Metalic - or Ceramic? Obviously Semi-Metalic is the cheaper alternative but am I just biding time?

i went with the autozone lifetime ceramic. it was a little more, but i plan on keeping the jeep a long time.

now before you guys go ripping autozone, i buy from them because they give a courtesy 10% discount for the fire and police types (if you show id). beleive me there we're times when that 10% helped. so even though i don't carry an id anymore i still buy from them because they are there for the guys/gals that are still in the trenches.

No beef with me about Autozone man I like them - Although the one I used to like is no longer my favorite I think the owner believes in Short staffing or something because those people are are having a rough time.
