Hey all,

The other day i did a quick test to see if what i was thinking would work. I like the ideal of mounting my camcorder inside of my liberty between the front seats to film out the window and give the most real view of the trail for just some neat video watching later on when i cant get out anymore.

i strapped my cam with tripod into the back seat as level as i could to get a view close to what I was going for. other than a to far back view it seemed to record very well, but of course since it wasnt on a very solid set up, the camera was very shaky. im wondering if there is anyway to drill a few holes in the floor just right behind the console so that i can put in some bolts that stick up and mount a homemade "arm" that attatches to the bolts and sticks up between the seats (bend and shaped as needed) and then holds the camera rock solid. Hope that makes sense. When camera is not in use, the mounting bolts would be hid under the floor mats anyway.

Before i go drilling, is there already an after market type of thing out there that is not to expensive and made for the job?

That's pretty ******** for trail runs. I'm sure it would be easy enough to fab something up, but I think not matter what you do, unless your camera has some kind of build in image stabilization, you're going to get a shaky picture.

its got the steadyshot feature and that helps, but i think if i can just get the arm it sits on to be solid then it should hold the camera perfect with whatever the jeep body does. ill post some pics when i get it built. shouldnt be to hard.

Ive wedged a tri-pod in that same place before to record things like that. I never had any troubles with the pod moving except for that one time I was recording my exhaust and it flipped back(vid is around here somewhere). You could use some bungee cords before going as far as drilling holes.

Mount

I'm thinking some kind of mount, that mounts between the tow rear seats. There are anchor points at the front and rear of the seat, and it is close to the center of the vehicle (less body roll in the center).

I had what I thought was a pretty good idea, which was to use a couple of 1x2's to create a bracket which could be bolted around the posts which hold the headrest on either seat, extending into the space between the seats. Then a 1/4-20 bolt and a knob could be used to mount the camera to this bracket, like so:

I was quite excited about this idea until I realized the Sport seats don't have seperate headrests... d'oh!

So I'm looking for another idea :)

Maybe this could work for someone though...
