So i just got my CRD liberty a week or so ago and im itching to take it off road and see what mama can do... I play it safe and try out a field with a dirt trail near my house. It had rained hard a few nights back but it has been relativly dry out here in the dallas/ft worth ara for a while. so mud puddles w/ river mud speckle the field but plenty of dry areas to hop between to stay out of trouble. well i get not 100-200ft off the gravel road and my ****** goes wacko, stuck in drive! no reverse, no neutral, ect. So me, not thinking... stops the car (luckily on a dry patch of terra firma).

Well my CRD thinks its in drive so it wont start (tho at this point im still rather clueless as to the problem) i take a walk to clear my head, i return to troubleshoot the issue. after crawling under the vehicle i determine that the auto ****** linkdage is busted and manualy shift it to park so i can star it. In my haste and my excitement i frorget is busted and continue in drive, realsiing i cant put the vehilce in neutral or reverse, im stuck in 4w low, up comes a mud puddle and i try and gun it to get through, well 4w low only generates about 10 mph ish and i burry my CRD to axles in a puddle of mud. Im feeling like a meron! thus tow company resques me for a nominal fee pulls me 10ft to safety.

Warning to auto ****** liberty owners. your little plastic gromit holding your ****** shift cable together is fragile and could get you in a lot of trouble.

Is that not a winch on the front of your jeep in your avatar? Maybe its time to invest in a pull pal eh?

Good story and good tip on the linkage as well.

Wow nutty story. Yea, put those skids on if your trailin, regardless of how easy it looks. With no reverse you couldn't even rock yourself outta the mud.

i was in a field so the winch was right out =(
I have skid plates on the engine and the ******.
This little clip bugger didnt even look molested by a mud clob er nothing, think it just got brittle and busted, there's a "National backorder" on the part so my jeep is in the shop untill further notice. thinking i smell another recall comming. why else would there not be any of these clips out there? kinda annoying how a little do-hicky part can cripple me for days on end
