hey all. my fiance drives an '02 liberty sport. since she bought it. somethin has been wrong with her front dome lights. the one on the left didnt click. and the on the right was hard to get it to turn off. you had to push it a certain way and talk dirty to it to get it to stay off...

so i finally got around to taking it down and havin a look. i disassembled the lights and the switches inside the lights and got them working properly. i plugged the lights back in and they wont turn off! im guessing this is why they were broke, b/c previous owner got pissed that they wouldnt turn off and smashed it lol. :disgust:

i took and back apart and checked the wires inside the clicker. there is one wire that is constant to the bulb, then there are 2 wires that are coming out of the harness.. now, i would assume that one of these wires is ran from some kind of dome light sensor for when the door is open. and one is just a 12v power. ( this is what i would guess ) b/c the clicker alternates between the 2 wires on the inside. but no matter how many times you click it. at least one of the wires is touching the contact. but both have power always. ( i hope i am explaining this clearly lol ) so i dont really get it.

so im thinkin that the problem lies elsewhere in the electronics. but im not sure where to start. for now i just removed 1 wire from each of the clickers to get the lights to turn off buy pushing them. but i would like for the light to come on when the door is opened.

*edit* i didnt mean to post this here. meant to post in General Discussion. sorry about that.

I assume that it is shut off on the multifunction switch
Had a neighbor with a KJ that stopped by about a month ago wanting me to check and see why her interior lights always stayed on. Showed her where she had it turned on all of the time
so just checking

ya, try turning the dashlight dimmer switch?
one wire is positive, the other two are grounds. if the multifunction switch is off, then you probably have one of those grounds touching metal somewhere that it shouldn't instead of going through the switch to ground, it's just grounding itself and making the light come on

Happened to me a few months ago. Spent about an hour looking at the manual etc., until I noticed that I'd turned the dimmer switch right up. As soon as I turned it down, dome lights went off.

Besides the turn signal's dimmer turned up or always on ...
On my 04 the rear cargo light can be pushed in similar to the front, causing the all interior lights to stay on.
Try pushing the rear cargo light on and off see if that helps.
Other wise consider replacing the front light assembly from wrecker etc.

x2 on the above. And not wanting to state the obvious but just to make sure you are aware there is a delay on the lights going out when you shut the door. And even more obviously make sure you are not trying to fix the lights with the door open!! Sometimes you just can't see the wood for the trees! Hehe. :smokin:

wooow i feel like a *******. i didnt even know that dimmer switch was there.. and wouldnt ya know it was turned all the way forward. ( probly has always been since the dome lights didnt work ) i did try to fix the light with the door close. even tried it with the jeep running with the doors closed lol and just got frustrated. glad it aint my jeep. or i would have felt even more stupid.

anyway i got it fixed and functioning properly now. thanks to you guys. i appreciate it.

i tried to fix the back dome as well. when i removed it there was no bulb and no wiring harness. wtf? there are no wires even ran to the clicker. sigh.
