Ok, This has been annoying me ever since I got the Jeep.

Is there any way to make the the rear doors auto unlock when you shut off the jeep and get out? Mine only the front doors auto unlock but the rear stays locked.

I don't know if this is just a matter of me being used to my old car where it would auto unlock all 4 doors or not. At least once a day I'll find myself with hands full of stuff and keys in my pocket, Go around to open the door to let my son out and realize it's all locked and I have to dig the keys out.

Every time it happens I swear at the Jeep at least once :mad3:

Is there any way to make it so the back doors auto unlock as well? I read a a thing on here a while back (or maybe it was on LOST) that had instructions for different program options you change using the fob on how the doors lock but non of the options involved allowing the rear doors to auto unlock like the fronts do.

That's a really good question. I never thought it was possible. So I always leave my friends locked in the back seat accidentally!!! :D

Do you have an EVIC?

There is a way to program the locking/unlocking of the doors via the EVIC panel - I have mine set to lock all doors at 15mph and unlock them when the driver's door is opened. Never tried to do that via the key fob.

There has to be a way to do it via the fob - the core programming is in the BCM not the EVIC so we'll find a solution for you...

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I'm pretty sure auto unlock is not a option you can set it to do.I know my '02 you can't,only autolock.

Just be thankful in a Jeep when you pull that inside dorr handle that the door opens regardless if it's locked or not(not to include the rear doors if the child lock is on).Others like GM's,toyota, honda, nissian, and the like no door will open unless you unlock the door 1st.My biggest pet peev, damnit if I pull that inside handle that door better open no matter what and why I will only buy Jeeps and Fords as it's a huge safety issue.

Hey maybe we can get NHSTA to recall all vehicles for that issue since it is a huge safety concern, you know you don't want to try and fumble with a door lock when your burning alive from a rear end crash from a semi doing 65mph.

I can relate. My sister drives and Oldsmobile Alero and DAMN that thing ****** me off when I try to get out of it.

No EVIC for me. Yeah it's not the end of the world just annoying at times so thought I'd see if there was a way to auto unlock the back doors as well.

No, the door won't open on my '02 Chevy Astro if it's locked, but all doors automatically lock when I put it in gear and automatically unlock when I put it in park.

Yeah, That is what I was talking about in the earlier post. It doesn't allow you to control all if the rear doors auto unlock. At by using the Keyfob.

Guess I might have to invest in an EVIC if I want to take care of this lol

This is one of those weird things automakers do from one model year to the next...

My '03 locks the doors when I'm up to 15mph, and when I open the driver's door when getting out ALL of the doors unlock - including the swing gate. Hedsic, the issue you're dealing with would drive me nuts too :insane:

I just programmed the EVIC to unlock all doors when driver's door is opened - and my Jeep didn't come with an EVIC, I added it a couple of years ago. But I can program mine to unlock whether I have an EVIC or not.

Like I said - Weird...

Stupid question but I do not know the 2006 KJ personaly but does having the "child proof locks" in different positions make any difference as these are there to prevent kids opening the doors from inside?

Otherwise you would need to change the wiring of the relays on the Junction Block which is the inside fuse panel.

If you wire the driver unlock relay in parrellel with the passenger door unlock relay then the driver and passenger locks would work together....you need to disconnect the passenger door relay from its existing wiring first and then connect it in parrellel to the driver door unlock relay.

You would need a bit of electrical knowledge.... download the KJ Service Manual for your year KJ here....includes the circuit diagrams and relay locations: Index of /manuals/Jeep/KJ
