Was there a 2WD Liberty? I mean one offered without 4WD

Was it a Front wheel drive 2WD?

The 4WD Liberty's, if they are in 2WD, is it a rear wheel drive Jeep or front wheel drive Jeep from day one (2002 I believe) until present?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on these. I've only owned Wrangler's and the Liberty platform is real new to me...But I love it. Trying to absorb as much as possible as I'm working on mine.

Liberty's were offered in 2WD & 4WD.

A 4WD Liberty has the rear driven in 2WD, same as the 2WD version.

New versions of the Libby are the same too.

We've even had a few 2wd forum members aks what it costs to convert to 4wd. The answer is usually:

Sell the 2wd and purchase another 4wd model.

Thanks for clearification.
Sometimes through design changes over the years and "new improved" models get revamped you may see changes that may not be obvious or what the buyer may expect.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the "New" old Liberty. I'm amazed at how many are on the road around my neck of the woods. Until I got mine I wasn't aware how popular these were.

And you wonder why I put so much wax on the KJ? They can't get a grip on it... :D

And that is why the Paeso never gets waxed...

I'm surprised you asked that with the whole '2wd vs 4wd' fight threads on here. The Liberty is just the next evolutionary stage of the Cherokee (still called a Cherokee overseas).

I was surprised at how well my 2wd has done in the snow and off road. I have heard horror stories from people with a RWD vehicle in the wintertime. But a KJ sticks to the road because it's so heavy. I’ve found that a 2wd Liberty is very capable as long as you have good tires on the back.

mag03kj you said it buddy :)

Before I bought my Liberty I drove FWD vehicles for many many years and got used to the way they behaved on slippery roads. The first winter with my Liberty on a slippery road I got a real scare in 2WD , it handles totally differently than FWD. Your butt swings out when you hit the gas. I can't imagine trying to drive any rear wheel drive vehicle through a winter but I can see you driving one through the trails. Depending on the trail I often drive on the trails in 2WD.

Have driven RWD/2WD winter and summer,no problem. If you can drive a trail in 2WD,it is not much of a trail, believe road is the proper term.

Technically a KJ with a transfer case is more of a "2WD" and the non-transfer case variant is a "1WD" ;)

I suppose that could be disputed if you have a green band around the rear axle, but that could be argued to support either stance.
