Its no mystery that the kj lacks sufficient storage space. I tried searching the forum for some ideas to use what space i do have efficiently and to my surprise there isnt to much info. I made a rear deck which helps a little bit but its nothing ground breaking. I was thinking of trying to do something with the dead space inside the rear door. Im not exactly sure whats in there or if its a good idea. I would most likely store recovery straps, ratchet straps and other tie down equipment in there. Any one have a reason i should not do this? Looking for feedback here so please post your thoughts

Inside the rear door?? Not that much extra room there
I have a ton of spare parts etc under the rear seats, front seats, etc

i would avoid putting extra weight on the tailgate, youll have enough of that when you lift and upgrade to larger tires, ammo boxes work good for "soft" items, i had my e-tool in one for a while but it would clunk around like crazy and drive me insane, i picked up a 16" awp tool bag at lowes for some other gear and its awesome, dont forget beneath the rear seats, i also got one of these and its awesome: Rampage Page 2

I often need to fold down my seats so i cant fit to much under the rear seats. Ill figure something out, im trying to keep some room in the back because i transport things frequently

i hear ya, im in the middle of making a cargo drawer/rack to fit behind one of the rear seats so i can have everything out of the way, once its done ill be sure to post a write up and drawing for how to build it, probably wont be for at least another 4 weeks though.

Even with the rear seats folded, there is still about 2-3" clearance under them. Doesn't seem like much, but I store my jumper cables under the driver's side rear seat.

I also have an old surplus ammo box in the back for asundry items (ball hitch, rear tow hook, tow strap, clay pigeon thrower, etc.) It's bungeed to the cargo hooks so it doesn't slide around, yet is easily moved if I fold the seats down.

Items such as a fire extinguisher, could be mounted in the rear window sills.

I guess it would be possilbe to mount a small box for lighter items in the same place.

Flashlight?

Lots of little spots can really add up for the small stuff.

For larger items, have you considered a rooftop cargo box or safari rack?
Another option, if you don't carry extra passengers, is to remove the rear seats completely

i like what you did with the flash light and extinguisher. im going to need one to get my truck pass to go on the beach and fish. right now i have a cargo deck i made and i was debating attaching a small spade and off road jack to the underside of the deck, or maybe fab up a mount to put them on the roof. i need to find a clever spot to hide a 3/4 ton come along and then it should be fairly neat in the back. just a tool box and a bag of recovery gear
