For both use water and soap:D.

I just use a the high pressure car wash wand on both,I don't unhook anything,I just need to watch my open air AEM air filter is all,no problems in 6 years.I spend about $20 in quarters alone on the under carriage and engine bay every week(still finding MOAB still after a year:mad:).

No use in unhooking the battery.

Just use low pressure and use a good All Purpose cleaner. Dont spray the alternator or fuse box directly. Use a brush to agitate areas that need it.

For the underbody, you can spray it off with a pressure washer or lay on your back and clean it with APC and a brush(like me :)).

Like Blake said use low pressure and a good cleaner on the engine. Also use common sense and don't blast any of your important sensors (like throttle position sensor for example....as some of them dont take too kindly to getting water in them). You're not putting out a fire (atleast you better not be!).

As for the undercarriage....a pressure washer and again your favorite cleaner and just go to town. I recommend wearing clothes you don't care about for that job as it gets real messy real quick.

oh
you have enough clearance to lay on your back and shoot that nozzle up underneath. keep the bottom nice and clean, specially if you are in a salty winter area.

as far as under hood, I am nervous to do it, just am. I did last year by following the same advice these guys gave, and everything was fine. I didnt use a pressure washer and scrubbed things down by hand, then spray rinsed it. i think jeepjeepster posted a video of him cleaning his, he does a lot more than me, his also looks a lot nicer than mine. I wasnt spraying near the air intake, whereas he sprayed right down in

I have my own power washer that I use every month or so to really clean, as far as washing the engine I stay away from the alt. and try to avoid most connections but if they can't take a little water they will never take the way I cross creeks then!

It's not that hard, really. I've done it several times, and need to take the black Jeep for an engine cleaning.

I use the pre-soak at the DIY car washes first, let that sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off, low pressure only. Works wonders.

Just stay away from the air intake and alternator. They can probably take a few splashes, but do not drown them.

I just bend over and spray the underbody. Never had any troubles doing that before or after being lifted. Maybe its where Im just 21? :)

Remember to, umm, use low pressure. Dont mind me:

Never had a problem with my engine. The way I look at it, if I can plunge the front end in a muddy water hole its going to be pretty hard to hurt anything with a water hose given that youre not stupid.

thanks. i went out real quick. i can get under from the front and back. the rock rails make it hard to get under from the side.

BTW my cousin likes your jeep. he wants to have his like yours

Another thought on cleaning the underside of your Liberty is to park over a sprinkler, when the weather permits, and let it sit for a while. This works really well after a long day of muddin', when there would otherwise be chunks of mud randomly falling off your Jeep for days after while driving.
