Last weekend I snagged a branch underneath and now my speedometer does not work. I get error codes P0500 and P0836. I know P0500 is faulty speed sensor connection but what is P0836?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Does this mean its in 4wd all the time or just the switch is faulty?
Since you don't list any other skid but the front skid(meaning you don't have a ******/t-case/gas tank skid) I would assume you ripped the 4wd inticator switch wiring out just like the rear diff speedo sensor wiring. It does not mean you are in 4wd all the time since the t-cases have a manual shifter.

Okay, I checked the 4wd/2wd and it works fine. The error must have been generated when there was a branch that got wrapped around the top of the transfer case. It also tore a hole in the sound proofing material. I reset the computer and the P0836 error has not come back, just the P0500 error.

I would still check the wires for the 4wd switch, and make sure they're not cut or anything.

Sounds like you need to get some more skids too!

Yeah, skids could have prevented it. I haven't bought any yet because it wasn't a major concern as we see mostly dirt, snow and mud here in the boreal forest. But we have lots of trees. Hence, most people here use atvs.

Okay, I fixed the problem. One of the wires to the wheel speed sensor got clipped. I purchased a new connector for $36, wired it back together and am good to go again.:) I checked the wires to the transfer case switch and they appear to be in good shape. I have not got the P0836 error again. Thanks for all your help!

I wonder how to keep that wire from getting clipped again because it is in such a vulnerable spot. No skid plate goes under the rear diff. I was going to tie it up out of the way but then I thought the wires would get pulled every time the differential lowers away from the body. hmmm.
