When: Friday, Sept. 16 - Sunday, Sept. 18th, 2011
Nicolet National Forest - NE Wisconsin
Bear Lake Campground(near Laona, WI)

This area is riddled with logging roads that are relatively stocker-friendly (skids, recovery points, and a mild lift would be beneficial). This area isn't considered an ORV area, but the roads in the area are all-access roads, unless otherwise marked. This is not an area for ******** wheeling. The roads are varying degrees of dirt, mud, grass, logs, etc. It's a very scenic area with lots of wildlife - we will be there at a great time of the year, when the leaves will be changing. Due to the nature of the trails (narrow, with very few places to turn around) we like to stick with smaller groups. If we have a lot of vehicles that show up, we can always break into multiple groups.
The Bear Lake campground is great - fishing, swimming, hiking are all right outside your tent. We are shooting to get the primitive walk-in camping on the peninsula where we pretty much have private camping. Less than 1/4 mile hike back from parking to the campsites. Very cool place.
Camping is pretty cheap at $12/night. Campsites are very large and can accommodate 2 -3 groups of people... easy to split the costs. Bear Lake campground is quite primitive compared to what some people are used to - there is no electric, there are no showers. There is the luxury of a pit toilet, and the only potable (drinkable) water source is from a water pump a short walk from camp. We will be 20-30 minutes away from any town with real resources (gas/groceries/cell phone signal).

The campground can be... interesting... to find from civilization. :? If you'd prefer to meet the group in Laona somewhere and follow someone into camp till you're familiar with the area, let me know. We can arrange for that. The IL group usually congregates in Kenosha off of I-94 again before heading northward... we can do this again this time around.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or send me a PM.
