While driving yesterday the car in front of me hit a bird at 70 MPH, don't know how because I didn't see it fly in front of the car. All I know is that suddenly there was an explosion of feathers. BOOM, except there was no sound. It was the strangest thing, one minute clear and then the next thing feather city. I checked this morning and I had a couple of feathers in my radiator.

First off, I probably should have posted this in the "Off Topic" forum but I did mention my radiator!

Having said that, yes Mick, it was like the Johnson pitch. In fact, it was like the car in front of me broke the sound barrier - or feather barrier if you will.

Just last week I saw an alligator in the middle of the road. You think swamps, gators, what's the big deal? The big deal is that this road is elevated and the nearest entrance/exit is two miles away. So this gator had to walk at least two miles to get where he was. I almost stopped to toss him back in the swamp but the saner part of me said, "are you crazy". He was about 4' long and probably in a bad mood. If he was still alive.

I've actually hit one before....same way you mentioned. Was going down the highway, and saw two birds fly across the highway....only one didn't make it......BOOM!!!....smacked the windshield head on. Looked behind me and there were feathers every where.

Strangest thing i've seen was about 3 weeks ago. On my way to work one morning and hit really bad traffic on the highway....thought it was strange at 6am to be stuck in bumper to bumper....come to find out, somebody had hit about 3 or 4 (it was hard to tell with the aftermath) GEESE on the highway...there were feathers flying in the air for two miles.

Story on the news read: "Geese Massacre on I-40 this morning"

I saw a car hit a pheasant once...sort of looked like that baseball vid...just a big puff of feathers. I hit a bird with my old Ranger once and never found it...just heard the thud and didn't see anything behind me...guess it must have gotten stuck and fell out later.

Whys that? Unfortunately if I have to choose between hitting a flying bird with my car, or swerving to try and miss it and wrecking....well, like I said, I've hit birds before...

Thats how I feel about ANY animal. I'll try my hardest to avoid hitting them, but i'm not about to put my life, my gf's life, and the lives of anybody who might be around me on the road at risk, or risk wrecking the Jeep.

Ive yet to hit anything except for a bird.. But it kinda hit me and you cannot do much about that.. lol

Im not one to swerve to miss an animal but I do my best to stop before hitting something. Ive had many cats, squirrels, dogs, and just about every other kinda animal run out infront of me and Ive yet to not stop in time.. Some people hit them for the fun of it but I could never do that..

I was just kidding about hyedipin not approving. Although he and I are big animal guys..

He was the one that adopted a bird for a day if you remember. :)

I knew a guy with a modded Buick Regal. He was on his way to track day at Norwalk, and was cruising with the windows down on I-75. A bird flew in the window, grazed his head (he actually had a scratch) and embedded itself, beak first, into his rear seat. The bird must have broken it's neck, it was dead and stuck in the seat. He was pretty mad as he just had put in a custom katzskin leather interior, and now there was a hole in it. Cool story though!

Anyone else think that thread was going to be about a massive bird poop?
