Hello all,

In my internet lurkings i've found forums have all the info you ever need about almost anything!

Same goes for this one i see (ipod adapter kit here i come)!

But i have a question about my speakers i havent really seen addressed...

I have the "premium" sound package with the amp'ed front door speakers.

Problem is that a few days after i drove it off the lot i reallized that the sound from the rear door speakers were almost non-existant compared to the front.

I tipped the fader to the rear of my RBK and there is definatly sound (and it doesnt sound bad or blown or anything) coming out - its just 20% as loud as the front........

Sooo, i'm thinking the amps have the issue - BUT i think its strange because its exactly the same on both sides... (leads me to beleive its the deck)

Opinions welcome!

P.S.
2004 Columbia with 48k miles.
What i'm trying to avoid is ripping everything appart and probing with a volt meter...

the front's have tweeters in the dash, the rear has no tweeters for the vocals...so that's part of the issue also

Hmm, the rears kinda sound normal to me tweeter or not...

Its just that the volume is not even 20% from the rears.

They may as well not even be there.

Are you saying the rears a low end drivers, fronts mids and tweeters up front?

the rears in my mom's limited with the premium Infinity package are just the "whizzer cone", not a true 2way speaker. So the mids and highs are gonna sound louder in the front because of the tweeters in the dash. But, if they're that quiet then there may actually be something wrong?

Its the fact that the speakers are in the rear doors too, you just cannot hear them as good. I usually fade to the rear 2-3 so it sounds better.

Its normal. :)

And (welcome)

Thanks!

If i throw the fade back so that the volume is even in the cabin i have to turn the volume knob almost all the way up to get the same output as the fronts need at 10% up. This is not a normal/positioning issue..

If i turn the radio to normal listening volumes i have to open the back doors and put my ear to them to be sure anything comes out at all. They can barely be heard at all if the front is at a lvl you'de have the system if you were talking to someone. (with your ear to them)

I'll chime in and agree that the fronts are better/louder than the rears. but it sounds like your rear speakers are substantially quieter, maybe there is a different situation that others of us have. you bought a jeep, now start disassembling the thing and fix or modify it! LOL good luck! Bob

Well i will! And I did, and it worked!

Though its not that sexy of a fix...

I pulled the HU out of the dash just to take a peek and look at the connectors for the potential ipon adaptor and when i put it all back together i'm getting much better sound out of the rears!!!

Maybe the harnes was shorted or loose i dont know but for now i'll drive on.

Now the rears are a little quieter but i'd say only by 80% now.
I just fade it to the rear 10-15% and its all good.

Thanks for the help guys!

Mine has the exact same thing, anyone ever checked if the rear speakers have Amp's as well? 'Couse I don't think so.

With the "regular" sound system, the speakers are powered by the internal amp inside the headunit...so no amps on the speakers at all. With the "premium Infinity" package, there are amps mounted to the back of the front speakers that power the front AND rear speakers...so no amps on the rear, just the front.
