I was looking thru my owners manual, and happened to see the p/o did keep some records, but nothing more than oil changes. Im sending my truck into the dealership to see if there is a head gasket issue, but what i would like to do is change all the drivetrain fluids and use royal purple.(warranty doesnt cover regular maintenance.)

I looked thru the manual and only found a few caps, but nothing real detailed, such as where the drain/fill plug on the transfer case is, where are the front and rear diffs fill/drain plugs? I noticed the front diff has one for a 3/8 rachet, but not sure bout the rear.

In essence,

How much fluid does the ****** take:

How much fluid does the transfer case take:

How much fluid does the front/rear diffs take:

Where is the drain/fill plugs on the diffs:

What weight gear oil do the diffs take:

I suppose i could have used the search function, but i just got my computer back up and running after a virus crashed it, so im a bit impatient at the moment.

TIA-

Jeff

The front diff has a fill plug(takes a 3/8 ratchet) and a drain plug on the bottom. The drain is a allen but I cannot remember the size.

The tcase has a fill and drain plug on the back. I think its a allen too but cannot remember the size. I just changed the tcase fluid on our ZJ and it takes a huge wrench but I think the kj takes a allen(hope I dont have those mixed up).

The rear diff has a fill plug but you need to take the entire diff cover off to get the fluid out. Its not as bad as you think but you need to clean all the old RTV(stuff that seals it) and re-apply new. I like to use gaskets myself, never had any problems.

ONLY USE ATF+4 in the ******. I use it in the tcase also.

Thanks...I would never have thought to look on wikipedia, i go there for everything else.

Now to figure out which ******/trans case i have. Time to decode vin (blarg)

Would there be a problem using royal purples fluids in the drivetrain, they say it meets the chryslers standards for atf+4 & GL5 lube.

To figure out what t-case you have is easy.

2wd,4 part time,"N",and 4low is the 231 command trac
2wd,4 full time,4 part time,"N",and 4low is the 242 select trac

******'s are easy also.

13 pan bolts = 42RLE
15 pan bolts = 45RFE

Use only ATF+4 or Amsoil universal ATF only in the ******,run any ATF you want in the t-case.
