I noticed the the front driveshaft boot on my 05 Renegade is torn/ cracked where it goes into the transfer case. Is this caused by the heat from the exhaust. Can I replace just the boot, it doesn't look like there was grease in there like a CV joint, just wondering what would happen if I let it go without repair. Thanks

The cv joint will soon start making a noise and sooner or later it will fail.

The extra heat could help cause this failure. Could also just be a crappy boot/design.

You can not just replace the boot, the whole driveshaft needs to be replaced.New ones are about $390,you can get a used one for about a $100,but who knows how long the used one will last or if it's any good to begin with.

Ahh, crap. I gotta go wash my CV boots tomorrow. Either that or drive it in a few puddles.
Fine sand/dirt from muddy water will cause more damage faster since it acts like sandpaper when dried, also plays hell with seals(pinion and t-case seals).

The car wash is the first stop(after airing up and gasing up) after a trail,I average $20 at those self serve car washes(about 25-30min) and half of that time is washing the underside and engine bay.

Now everyone will understand why I hand wash the under side of my Jeep. :)

I still have a bad front pinion seal though. :(

Next oil change Im going to start spraying the front driveshaft boot with grease. I usually spray all the bushings and the sway bar bushings but Ill have to start spraying those too.

I better grab my creeper and some rain gear then.

Since the front driveshaft joints are good and not making any noise I was wondering if I could maybe find a universal boot to clamp over the front drive shaft where it comes out of the transfer case, and fill with grease, this might buy me some time as I think the price is very high for the front driveshaft, and I don't have the $$$ right now. If it came down to it, could I remove the front driveshaft and drive it like that, what do you guys think. Thanks
