Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site. I've had a great time reading up on everyone's stories, suggestions and advise over the past few days before deciding to join myself.

Anyway, quick question: What is that black "front end cover" actually for?? It's an accessory for Jeeps that is aparently made to protect the front end of your Jeep. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just google it and you'll get a picture of it.

Thoughts??

theyre also called "bras"

from what ive seen they would be good if you haul your car behind an RV or something often where the paint would get really beat up. they can also damage your paint though. between road grit getting stuck between your vehicle and the bra and then driving speeds making the slightest movement in the bra and its practically like sandpaper.

i think theyre a terrible idea and have no idea why people like them.

DirtyKK has it right they are used to protect the front of your Jeep (or any vehicle) from rock-chips etc. He is also correct saying that they can damage the paint as well if used incorrectly (not removed regularly and cleaned underneath and or improper install so they flap at higher speeds) I however like the way they look and have used them for years with no ill effects.

I have only once seen a KJ w/ Bra, and it was being towed behind motorhome.

Thank you everyone for your replies. gtommec - your comment cracked me up. Thanks for the picture too - that's exactly what I'm talking about. I was thinking about getting one for my KK - to keep dirt and rocks out of the grill and off the hood. But the instructions may have scared me off - they state that you have to remove it after it rains to allow it to dry. If it dries while still on your Jeep, it can cause paint discoloration. I'll have to think about this one. . .

bra

I have one on my KK. I got it because I commute 100+ miles a day and already have some huge chips in the paint on the front end from flying rocks. I don't particularly like the looks of the bra--it's a bit too 80's for me but I like chips down to the bare metal even less. It is a lebra branded one. Sorry I have no pics. The fit is good and it's surprisingly durable so far.

I've had it about a year. I sanded and primed the chipped areas before I put it on. I have never taken it off, even through last year's exceptionally bad Cleveland winter. I am not recommending this, I just know that I have to repaint the front end regardless due to the rock damage when I do remove it for good so I have not been very worried about paint damage from the bra. I will take a peek under it and see if I have sanded off the rest of the paint with it and report back. I'll try to get a pic as well.

And yes, in case you are wondering I have had to have the windshield repaired more than once as well. The roads around here suck.

I had the hood portion on my KJ. Looked nice to me.

And for the record, I have a crack in my windshield. As long as it stays where it is on the passenger side bottom and doesn't spread, I'm not too worried about it.

Clear Bra

Go for the clear bra. I have a 4 year old CRV and a 2 year old 2009 Liberty that have been driven daily. Both got the clear bra when they were new, and the front ends are both still looking brand new. Previous car was a Subaru, after 2 winters the front end was totally sand blasted.
