That 5w-30vs 10w-30 got me to thinking which I should actually be using. I switched to 5w-30 this past fall/winter for the first time(usually use 10w-30 year around) and my engine was alot quieter on cold starts. The valve-train usually clanked along when it got really cold but I didnt hear a thing this winter. I know Ill stick with 5w-30 for winter but I wonder if I ll gain anything by using 10w-30 in the summer?

Thanks for the article. I remember reading something along these lines a few years ago, but it's nice to have a refresher as to why I don't change my oil as often as most. I -like- my money. I'll definitely be trying 5w30 year round, though. Typically I've just stuck to 10w30. Ah well.. live and learn.

This bit about the API Certification for Amsoil is BS. I have several friends who sell Amsoil and actually have all the facts on the table as to why Corporate America Oil wants to **** can Amsoil!
Believe what you will.
Thats all I can say.

i wonder why the tests seem to indicate that engine wear "might" be higher in the first 2-3000 miles after a fresh change?
