Somewhere between being sane and insane!
The OEM cats are the highest flowing ones on the market. Those aftermarket ones kinda play hell with the downstream O2 sensors which will mess up your power and mileage along with that nice check engine light.

Oh and all V6 KJ's have 4 O2 sensors. If you have the 45RFE trans you have 3 cats,42RLE trans you have 2 cats.

I'm pretty sure that I have 3 catalytic converters, and I have a 42RLE... Maybe a '02-'03 thing?

Cheers! :)

Easiest way to tell if cats are bad is to get under your KJ and tap on the cats with a rubber mallet. if you hear anything rattling inside, they are bad. Cats have 8 yr - 80k mile warranty, so maybe you get lucky. I had one replaced on my Suburban at about 79,500 miles - no cost at the dealer.

troy's right about the aftermarket "highflows" messing with the o2's, have had several that opted to replace downstream cats with the high flow cheaper cats and it ended up burning up the upstream cats

however, those who replaced ALL the cats with the highflows haven't seemed to have any problems with the cats or the o2's

im under the assumption it's a backpressure / flow difference between the OEM and aftermarket cats that causes the problems

OEM cats made after about '00 flow better then aftermarket "high flow" cats do.

So yes in a sense the different BP's can be a issue.

Welcome to the forum, Black Wolf! Seems like whenever we have a member leave us, there's another to take his spot right away!

OEM catalytic converters flow pretty damn well, so unless you're messing with head/cam improvements, there's no real gain to be made with high flow cats in ThunderbirdJunkie's opinion.

Sorry dude I don't know who you are referring to, but my Jeep is in my signature line.

Anyways back to the catalytic issue, what if I used some sort of bypass modules for the sensors?

Hopefully I fixed it, anyways I don't drive her much she is an 06 with barely 12K miles on her. I have a 6inch BDS Lifted 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 that I normally drive but I love that little jeep!

Hey...glad to see you survived the storms....

We had another member not long ago who had a black liberty and was getting a lifted Dodge truck. How coincidental. Small world, yes?

Nice pic. Almost looks like it was lifted from some for sale ad on the 'net. Got any more pics of your S.E. in action? Maybe the dual flow masters?
