for about the last 3 weeks to a month there is a high pitched squeak coming from the front end somewhere, it stops as i apply the brakes so i checked out my brakes on the drivers side and everything looks good, as i just replaced rotors and pads this past may. i notice the noise tends to start after going over a speed bump or driving down some badly graded roads or driveways. its quite annoying as it gains alot of attention from on lookers. what can i do? wheel bearings? lost on this one...

the pads and rotors have about 2K on them...sounds like the same thing as the other post describes. how much am i looking at for new bearings?

also, it doesnt happen all the time either. maybe once or twice a day. and i dont drive that much as im living on a small island of massachusetts and everything is very close...

+1.

I generally hear it when I am taking off after a bit of a stop (A few hours) but I don't hear it in the morning, or I drive much faster so I don't realize.
I can hear it when the windows are down and when I drive slower, when I apply brakes, the wheel squeak quiets down, instead the break-pad-squeak starts (which I am not complaining about) it feels like something is touching something inside the rim.. I doubt that it is bearing because it should not be related to applying brakes.. it must have something to do with pads or the housings that keep pads away from rims?! (blarg)

right, well i dont think its something rubbing the inside of the rim, but it sounds like maybe the rotor is warped, but its not, the only thing i can liken it to is that the bearings are going. no idea, but im gonna look at it more closely tomorrow...

any other thoughts?

Did you apply disc brake stop sqeak on the back of the brake pads? If not it may be your pads are vibrating causing the noise,it would stop as soon as you apply the brakes. You can get it at any parts store, just ask for some at the parts counter if you don't know what your looking for.And them just apply to the back sides(not the side that contacts the rotor) of the pads, you must remove the pads first though.

To me, it sounds like a rotating noise, rather than vibrating noise, but what do I know.. Only if I could just lift it with a stable jack and fiddle with the wheel.

thanks, im gonna try this tomorrow, however, wouldnt this have been going on since i installed the pads? i know i did put this stuff on though, maybe just not enough...

also, it does sound like more of a rotating noise rather than a pad vibration...
