Another project I probably won't end up doing because it will be too complicated, but I can probably have the local shop take care of it for a reasonable cost.

I want to get a loud horn but I don't want to hook it up to or replace the stock horn as the one I want to get will need compressor and won't be able to blow again until it charges again.

Has anyone heard of or seen someone hook up horn to a secondary switch or button, or hang a rope from the roof and pull on it :) to honk some very loud horn? No, not that famous train horn..

Wouldnt be any different than wiring up a set of lights. The new horn will probably have a relay too.

Its just a switch and a horn. :)

I stopped by the store, non of the horns worth getting. I checked walo website, some of stuff sounds like dollar-vans or cheap "got every 99cent accessory" taxicab horn-like....

Unless I go with $200 truck horn...

Talk to Bennett....for a while he had an air horn with a compressor hooked up in his KJ. I know he was trying to sell it a while back....don't know if he did or if he still has it.

Bosch makes some compact air horns with the compressor built in with zero pump up time and they are very loud... I know, I have two mounted in my Mini:D

These horns by Viking look identical to the Bosch model (probably made by Bosch anyway) and are louder:

You can hook both horns up to your factory steering wheel horn button and then have a change over switch fitted. That way you can use one or the other with the flip of a switch.

Check them out.

Cheers

I, too, am looking for an auxiliary horn, but I want one that makes my Jeep sound like it has, for lack of a better term, cojones. For when that idiot slams on his brakes in front of me for no reason.

Ive been wanting a horn to make my jeep sound like it has a set of nuts for along time now. Having a Jeep that sounds like a man is better than hanging a fake set of nuts on my hitch.

Only thing is I would PO alot of people and my Jeep is easy to remember. Maybe if I take that smiley face off the back it wont be so noticeable.

socks, that sounds about right, but I would like to hear how they sound, anyway you can record a short tune for us with your fanfare?

sevenhelmet, exactly, some A-HOLE passed me on the ramp to the highway, after I took the ramp I saw him on my rearview, doing probably 80, I went in with 50, he got to my right onto the merge and cut right in front me before wrapping himself around the pole because merge ended... I honked for a few seconds, and I had my windows down, man it sounded weak ***..

Blake, fake set of nuts, the most disgusting sh*t i've ever seen. Totally disrespectful to lady drivers out there, just cannot beleive people could put those on. Be careful, I hear KY is a small town, with not many lifted jeeps, so even without the smily face, be careful dude.

Good day,

Huseyin, no can do with the sound bite... I got bored and started pulling the engine out of the Mini so that I can make it go faster!:)
Did you check out the sound clips on that website?

If you crank up the volume on your PC you should get a good idea as to how loud the horns are.
Alternatively you could always scope out a truck horn out of a 5 ton truck (such as an International, non air compressor type.) Just go to one of their dealerships and try a few out on their lot to see how loud they are. Then, if you like it, buy one out of a truck salvage yard for a fraction of the cost compared to new. For that matter, check other 5 ton truck makes until you find one you like.
Many many moons ago a friend of mine did just that and bought one out of a wrecked 5 ton Ford U-Haul truck for $5.00 and wired it directly in place of his stock Toyota Tercel horn.
That thing would make people jump:D

@ Socks: Nice. I'm not looking to set off car alarms, but if it gets their attention on the highway and makes 'em think twice about what they just did, then I did my job. I figure something in the 130-140 dB range at the right frequency will do it.

@Hydepin: You had a guy crash right in front of you like that? What an idiot!

The sound bit won't work for me, I guess it doesn't like Mac. The only downside to owning the best computer there is.

Thanks Socks.
Sevenhelmet, bit didn't work for me either, because of the wmp on the site, this is the sound clip from the site: http://2001saledepot.com/wav/613.wav

this sounds a bit on the high note, but it sure is pretty loud.
Regarding truck horns, I have no idea who can have that kind of stuff around here, probably one of those run-down repair shops from the last century. :)

But that's the fun part... Pair of coveralls, work boots and a hand full of tools.

You will spend more time walking aroung looking at old crap than it will take to pluck an old horn out of a heap! :)
