How much do I need for a flush? Someone had posted 24 quarts, seems like a ton to me. I've done my car and it called for 12 but its a much smaller ******..

I believe that it's 17.6 pints for a rebuilt 42RLE, not including the transmisison cooler lines and heat exchanger.

8.0 pints for just a trans pan dump and fill.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
To do a proper trans flush you need to run twice the transmission capicity to make sure you flush all the old stuff out.The 45RFE holds 14qts so you would need to run 28qts through to get all the old fluid out.Seems wasteful but that is what is needed to get the job done right.
