I'm going to repaint the fenders with black OEM molding paint, mine are grey and look ****** :(

how do I get the fenders off? by prying them off or by poking something in the middle of each of the plastic rivet pieces?

thanks in advance

well, I pryed one of the plastic "bolts" that keep the fenders on and it doesn't look like I can get it back on, I guess the factory installation is a one way only option

I've got something that will work though, from Advance AP, I guess I'll go get a bunch of those and proceed as planned

feel free to add any information you may have...

I'm not sure on removing the fenders considering I have never tryed but they can easily be taped off for painting and it would save you alot of time and trouble. Just my opnion.

The plastic rivets cost me $2 each at the dealer, you can also use the press in type, which is what my Ltd has. I found the plastic rivet stems got stuck in my pop riveter and I had to dismantle it after every rivet, to get the stem out. There probably exists a proper tool for them.

You can get the rivets from NAPA (search the LOST website for part number) without a tool or Harbor Freight with or without a tool. The stems are about 3/16" so they require a tool with a large opening.

Dude! I just removed my entire from end on my 02 KJ...No need to go back to the dealer for rivets and spend that kind of money. AutoZone sells them for $3.50 for a box of 20. Also there i no need for a special tool...if you have a pointed tool the side of a toothpick you can use that to punch the rivet hole in. The rivets from AZ come with a philip head opening on them so its much easier to install and they are better quality.

To remove the fender you need to remove the grill, next the lights and turn signals so you can access the closable clamps that hold the front fender to the metal frame. make sure not to break the plastic rivets in the curve of the front fender due to the fact those are dealer item only- repeat both sides.

Hit a Deer and watch em fly!!

Sorry couldn't resist.. When i hit that Deer my passenger side fender flare flew up and over the KJ and landed in the highway behind me. No damage at all to the fender, all the plastic clips broke and it just flew right off on impact.

I just wrecked my jeep and the flairs popped off, so there are little pressure clips like every 6-8 inches just take a big flat head screw driver and double over a small towel to prevent scratching your paint and they should pop right off be sure to not leave the pressure clips behind stuck in the actual fender they're just stuck onto the flair and are easy to break off, so becareful. Good Luck
