Infinity Speaker Re-Foam Kits, Any Experienced??

Has anyone bought the Re-Foam kits to rebuild their 6.5" Infinity speakers in the Jeep and other Chrysler vehicles? The front speakers on my 03' KJ are kaput, the passenger side is totally separated all the way around, the drivers side is starting and about half way there.

If you have done this tell me who you ordered it from, and which size kit you needed. They have a bunch of them but they don't say they are for these Chrysler/Jeep speakers.

All the speakers say on them is Infinity 36670 and then a Jeep/Chrysler part number.

I was totally satisfied with the sound of the stock system until the front speakers came apart. I'm guessing the previous owner never pushed the speakers as hard as i did and the foam was shot on them and let go. Yeah i know i could replace them, but for the cost of a good pair of component speakers and having to deal with removing and relocating the OEM Amp/Crossover module on them i could just rebuild them.

Ok, i guess nobody on here has experience with this.

I ordered a kit to re-foam the Infinity speakers, it replaces the dried out and ripped foam surround on the speakers. Basically just clean it up and glue on a new one after centering the coil.

I will take some pictures of the whole process when i do it and post it up here.

How much was it? [Edit] Just saw it, you mentioned $20 in the other topic... What exactly is this? Re-foam!? is it like shaving foam? I mean will you be peeling old one off the cone and sticking this one in its place?

Yep, its what they call a re-foam kit, or search eBay for Infinity Surround Repair. If you can't find it search for item number 350213635454.

I had a nice long chat with the seller via email, he sent me a ton of links on speaker repair, and he said he has personally rebuilt a bunch of these and that's why he started selling them on eBay.

I found some websites where they got really good results rebuilding the Infinity speakers in other Dodge/Chrysler vehicles so i figured for $20 its worth a shot!! He confirmed that it would fit the speaker in the Jeep because its the same speaker in other vehicles with the Infinity system.

If you want a better idea on it go to youtube and search for speaker surround repair, or speaker foam replacement, lots of good videos on there. Basically you just have to clean off the remains of the old surround, use some card stock or old business cards to shim around the coil to center it and then glue on the new surround. The shims just makes sure the coil is centered so it can't rub or get stuck after you glue the surround to the metal basket.

After further reading, the shim process is only needed if the spider is bad and you can hear the coil scratching or rubbing. Pushing on mine they are nice and smooth and still sound centered. So hopefully i can just re-foam and rock!

Should be the end of the week!! The kit shipped to me today priority mail, so Weds or Thursday i should have it and i will get started on the passenger side speaker as its the worse and would show a good worse case scenario, foam surround totally gone.

Amazingly the speakers still "work" at very low levels and little to no Bass. But beyond that of course they just sound like a bunch of cans rattling in a bag.

I found one youtube video where a guy re-foamed a pair of infinity speakers from a Chrysler 300 i think it was. He took an original speaker that was good and did some sound tests on it and showed on a scope how well it was reproducing the tones sent to it, then he took a bad one from another car and rebuilt it with a new foam surround and tested that, it was perfect compared to the other reference speaker. So i have high hopes that i can at least get them sounding as good as new.

I'm not looking for a blow you away smash windows system, the original infinity system is plenty loud for my needs.
