Hello all,

This is my first post here. I have been searching around a bit to try and figure out the best way to install new speakers into my jeep. I think I know what I need to do at this point but I'd like to hear some opinions or suggestions because I'm not positive.

I originally wanted to replace all 6 speakers ( front and rear doors, dash speakers) but now I'm not so sure. It seems that the best way would be to buy a new amplifier to run all the speakers through. If I went this route would I need a 4 channel or 6 channel amplifier assuming I bought replacement component speakers for the front and a different pair for the rear doors?

Also, would it be possible to replace just the dash speakers with new ones? I wasn't sure if this would be as straight forward as it sounds. I'm debating on whether I want replace all the speakers for better sound or just the crackling dash speakers to atleast get rid of the crackle.

Thanks for any help.

A 4 channel amplifier is all you "need" for the door speakers. Most components come with a crossover per pair, and tweeters, too.
ThunderbirdJunkie would heartily recommend getting a 5- or 6-channel amplifier, also, and getting a subwoofer (or two).

The dash speakers are tweeters. These are available separately if you so desire.

4 Channel will be enough even if you go with 2 set of components
It is not the amp's job to seperate highs and lows, that's what crossovers are there for.
You can go 5 channel amp if you plan on powering speakers and subwoofer off the same amp, but I would recommend 4 channel + mono amp. Or if you don't care about rears, you can go with 4 channel like I did, and hook up two channels to the sub, and have two channels for the fronts.

Thanks for the quick reply.

6 channel amp with subs would be great. Maybe I'll start saving and do that up. :D

Just for clarification.

"Or if you don't care about rears, you can go with 4 channel like I did, and hook up two channels to the sub, and have two channels for the fronts."

Would the rears then be powered by the stereo? You'll have to excuse me, I'm fairly new to all this.

Yup, if thats how you set it up thats how it would be. Rear speaker powered by the stereo.
