I work at a LR ,porsche, jag, bmw dealership and we have one of the offroad LR courses . LR says ONLY one of their vehicles can go over this course . Last week I took my 05 KJ over the course . I planned on taking pics the second time around , but the LR rep was there and saw me going over it and got PISSED !:D

Yep a KJ will do amazing things,my uncle worked for a Hummer dealership and they have a little test course, had to pull the H3 Alpha he was driving out of it after I made it through with ease.

That would have made a great photo! Does Land Rover still make good off road vehicles? On a semi-unrelated note, I saw a billboard for the new H3X, it has the spare tire on the back now.

KJ is pure stock , just opened rear glass so it wouldn't brake and went over ! Almost tipped  but gave it some juice and went forward instead of upsidedown:D I may try it again when I put a lift and larger tires so it wont sesaw again .;)

oh
pissed because of liability reasons I am sure.

the side tilt is pretty severe at some lr stealers. discos can park on that side tilt because it has a full steel frame surrounded by a full aluminum body, heavy ass.

regarding do they make any good vehicles, no, they stopped doing that with the 04 disco, the rest is ford crap.

Some people would say that the pre-Ford crap... was the real crap due to reliability reasons.

The post-Ford Defender is a big improvement in the engine and gearbox stakes, but the prices for the Defender are ridiculous for what you get. No idea about the Discovery. The Freelander is a nice little car, but probably beaten by the RAV4 - it's natural competitor :)

Don't get over excited, what I understand is that the new Grand Cherokee is based on the Mercedes ML...not much of an offroad vehicle...

I expect the next generation of Cherokee or Liberty to have IRS like the Patriot or the RAV or whatever so it's all downhill from now on...

JEEP should have stuck with the trail rated stuff imo, no need to make the comp-ass...:p

Yep, the 2nd gen WK will be based on the Mercedes ML. We're probably gonna trade in the Durango on one. It'll be off road capable than that....

To sad it's down hill from here....:(

Was that a 4.0 with the 242 ..... and AW4 ******....?....they were good jeeps.

Also, per prior posts, the last of my favorite LR was the old Defender and of the FJ was the FJ 40

The Next-Gen WK and Mercedes ML (W164) do indeed share platforms...

But that's about it. Maybe a few random parts, not much else. (Remember, engineering speak, a platform is a set of dimensions... nothing else, and this platform was engineered right here in Detroit.) :D :D Sharing a platform has NOTHING to do with sharing a floorpan, suspensions, etc.

reliability for most is actually decent, the problem is the folks who buy rovers new off the lot treat them as if they should never need any fluids changed, and actually listen to dealers and do 15k oil changes. but yes, they are prone in certain model years or certain pieces and parts, they arent for someone who doesnt like to tinker :D

I dunno, when Land Rover owners tell other people who are looking to buy one "Feh, they're not for everyone... you really have to have a passion for them", I take that as code for "They break down a lot and they require a lot of patience, time and money"
